Air Force Chief Flies in Rafale during Military Exercise with France

  • Showcasing the defence and bilateral ties between the two countries, Indian Air Force (IAF) Chief Marshal V.R. Chaudhari flew in a Rafale fighter jet, while French Air chief Gen Stephane Mille flew in an Indian Russian-origin IAF Su-30MKI fighter during 'Garuda VII' bilateral exercise in Jodhpur.
  • The ongoing Ex Garuda VII between Indian Air Force (IAF) and the French Air and Space Force (FASF) will conclude on November 12.
  • Ex Garuda VII is also the first occasion for the LCA Tejas and the recently inducted LCH Prachand to participate in any international exercise. The exercise includes four FASF Rafale fighters and one A-330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft.

Malabar Naval Drill from November 8

  • The navies of India, the US, Japan and Australia are participating in the 26th edition of Malabar Exercise off the coast of Japan from November 8 to 18.
  • The four-nation exercise will have Indian naval ships INS Shivalik and INS Kamorta and surveillance plane P8-I based out of Yokosuka, Japan. The exercise will witness high-tempo exercises in multiple domains of warfare.

Annual Joint Military Training between IAF, Royal Singapore Air Force Resumes

  • The annual Joint Military Training (JMT) between the Indian Air Force (lAF) and the Royal Singapore Air Force (RSAF) commenced at Air Force Station, Kalaikunda in West Bengal, after a gap of two year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The JMT began on November 3.
  • This edition of JMT would be conducted over a period of six weeks. The bilateral phase of the exercise will be conducted from November 9-18 and will see the two Air Forces engage in advanced air combat simulations.
  • The RSAF is participating in JMT-2022 with F-16 aircraft, while the IAF would field the Su-30 MKI, Jaguar, MiG-29 and LCA Tejas aircraft. The exercise underscores the strong and longstanding relationship between India and Singapore in the domain of defence cooperation.

Indian Army Approves 5 Make II Projects Including Drone Kill System

  • As per the Defence Ministry, the Army approved project sanction orders of five Make II projects, including drone kill system and infantry training weapon simulator, giving an impetus to India's vision for self-reliance.
  • Make II projects are essentially industry-funded projects involving design, development and innovative solutions by Indian vendors for development of prototypes.
  • Indian Army is spearheading actions to provide impetus to 'Make Projects' as the prime drivers of infusion of niche technologies through indigenous development.
  • These projects whose PSOs have been approved, included high frequency man packed software defined radio, drone kill system, infantry training weapon simulator (IWTS), 155 mm terminally guided munition (TGM) and medium range precision kill system (MRPKS).

Goa Maritime Symposium 2022

  • Fourth edition of biennial Goa Maritime Symposium was conducted successfully by the Indian Navy at Goa.
  • Coming out of the shadows of global COVID-19 pandemic, the Indian Navy was delighted to witness physical participation of overseas delegates from all 12 invitees. Representatives from Navies and Maritime Agencies from 12 Friendly Foreign Indian Ocean littoral countries, which included Bangladesh, Comoros, Indonesia, Madagascar, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Myanmar, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand, besides India, attended the Symposium, conducted by the Naval War College, Goa.

DRDO Conducts Successful Maiden Flight-test of Phase-II Ballistic Missile Defence Interceptor

  • India successfully conducted maiden flight test of Phase-II Ballistic Missile Defence (BMD) interceptor AD-1 missile with large kill altitude bracket from APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha.
  • The flight-test was carried out with participation of all BMD weapon system elements located at different geographical locations.
  • The AD-1 is a long-range interceptor missile designed for both low exo-atmospheric and endo-atmospheric interception of long-range ballistic missiles as well as aircraft. It is propelled by a two-stage solid motor and equipped with indigenously-developed advanced control system, navigation and guidance algorithm to precisely guide the vehicle to the target.
