India Forward Mumtaz Khan Named FIH Women's Rising Star of the Year
India forward Mumtaz Khan was named the FIH Women's Rising Star of the Year on the back of her stellar role during the country's campaign at the Junior World Cup in South Africa earlier this year.
Mumtaz, who hails from Lucknow, had scored eight goals in six matches, including a hat-trick, during India's fourth-place finishing campaign in Potchefstroom in April.
She finished in third place on the list of top scorers in the World Cup. She failed to score in just one game throughout the tournament, against Netherlands.
Mumtaz scored both the goals for India in the crucial 2-2 tie in the bronze medal match against England, but the team couldn't get over the line in the ensuing shoot-out to end at fourth place.
Timothee Clement of France was voted FIH Men's Rising Star of the Year.
Ukraine to Join Spain-Portugal 2030 World Cup Bid
Ukraine is set to join Spain and Portugal in a combined bid to host the 2030 World Cup.
As per reports, Ukraine is being added to the Spain-Portugal bid. The bid, which has been in the works for more than three years, is scheduled to be announced at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland.
The addition of Ukraine to the European bid was first reported by British newspaper The Times of London. Ukraine co-hosted the 2012 European Championship in four cities, including Donetsk and Kharkiv.

Discus Thrower Kirpal Singh Batth Shatters National Games Record
Punjab's Kirpal Singh Batth shattered the National Games record on his way to winning the gold in the men's discus throw.
Batth broke Shakti Singh's 25-year-old record of 58.56 metres, which was set in 1997. Batth bettered the mark with this second attempt of 58.65m and then bettered it to 59.32m in the penultimate round.
Services' Gagandeep Singh finished second with a best throw of 56.49m, while teammate Prashant Malik finished third with a best attempt of 55.58m.
Siva Subramaniam Vaults to Gold to Break 35-year-old Record
Siva Subramaniam won the men's pole vault gold at the National Games, and not only did he better his own national record but also broke the long-standing games record.
Siva bettered his national record of 5.30 metres with a jump of 5.31m. He also broke the National Games record, which had stood for 35 years.
The games record of 5.10m set by Vijaypal Singh at the Thiruvananthapuram Games in 1987 was easily shattered when Siva cleared 5.22m.
Bopanna-Middelkoop Duo Clinch Doubles Title in Tel Aviv
India's Rohan Bopanna and his Dutch partner Matwe Middelkoop clinched the ATP 250 Tel Aviv Watergen Open men's doubles title.
The top seeded Indo-Dutch pair notched up a 6-2, 6-4 victory over the third seeded Mexican-Argentine pair of Santiago Gonzalez and Andres Molteni in the final.
It was Bopanna's third ATP title of the season and 22nd overall. Bopanna had won two titles this season with compatriot Ramkumar Ramathan in Adelaide and Pune. It was also the first ATP Tour title for Bopanna and Middelkoop as a team.
Meanwhile, former World No. 1 Novak Djokovic lifted the Tel Aviv Watergen Open men's singles title after beating Marin Cilic in straight sets in the final.

USA Wins FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022
In the final of FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022, USA beat China by 83-61 to register a thumping victory. The championship was held in Australia.
This was USA's fourth consecutive gold medal at the women's basketball World Cup.
A'ja Wilson earned the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in the tournament.

In men's 1500 m run, Parvez Khan of Services won gold medal. Ajay Kumar of Uttar Pradesh) won silver and Arun Wask of Madhya Pradesh Bronze.
In women's high jump, Swapna Barman set a new National Games record with a 1.83m jump in the women's High Jump event.

Top Javelin Thrower Shivpal Singh Handed 4-year Ban for Failing Dope Test
Top Indian javelin thrower Shivpal Singh was handed a four-year suspension for failing a dope test last year by the NADA's Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel.
Shivpal, who took part in the Tokyo Olympics, was placed under provisional suspension in October 2021 after he failed an out-of-competition test. He had tested positive for banned substance Metandieonone.
The ban period for Shivpal of Uttar Pradesh began from October 21, 2021 and his ineligibility period would be up to October 2025.
World Cadets Chess Championship: India's Shubhi Gupta, Charvi Win in U-12 and U-8 Section
India's Shubi Gupta and A. Charvi emerged winners in the girls under-12 and under-8 sections respectively in the FIDE World Cadets Chess Championship held at Batumi, Georgia. Shubhi Gupta, who hails from Ghaziabad, scored 8.5 points from 11 rounds to claim the top prize in the under-12 event.
In the girls under-8 section, Charvi finished first with 9.5 points from 11 rounds. Charvi was trailing Bodhana Sivanandan (England), but managed to catch and overtake her.

AIFF Launches Grassroots Football Development Scheme in Arunachal Pradesh
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) launched its grassroots football development (GFD) scheme in Arunachal Pradesh with an aim to tap, select and nurture football talents in the age group of 6 to 12 years.
GFD committee chairman Shantanu Pujari launched the scheme in the presence of Chief Minister Pema Khandu and AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey.
Khandu, who is also the honorary President of the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA), announced that the state government would begin this scheme in 100 schools, preferably government-run, very soon in consultation with the state's education department.

India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to a back stress fracture, dealing a massive blow to team's chances at the ICC flagship event in Australia.
Bumrah will be forced out of action for six months due to the back injury.
Bumrah, who played the second and third T20 against Australia, didn't travel with the team to Thiruvananthapuram for the series-opener against South Africa.
