8th International Film Festival of Shimla Begins at Gaiety Theater

  • A three-day 8th edition of the International Film Festival of Shimla began at Gaiety Theater, in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.
  • As per reports, a total of 86 films would be screened and 50 directors from India and abroad will participate. During the three days film festival, 27 films in the international category, 34 Indian films, 4 Himachali films, and 15 National Award-winning films would be screened.
  • Films across 17 countries – Canada, America, Lebanon, Spain, Iran, Taiwan, Brazil, Iceland, Singapore, Mexico, Australia, Greece, Belgium, Denmark, and Russia would shown. These include documentaries, animation, features, and short films. A total of 16 National Award Award-winning films received from the Directorate of Film Festivals, would also be screened at the festival.
  • A film exhibition organized by the National Film Archives of India, Pune would be displayed at the venue which would help the audience to enhance their knowledge about the film. Movies will also be shown for the prisoners at Kanda Model Central Jail, which will also give them an opportunity to get acquainted with different dimensions of cinema.

Royal Enfield Tie-Up With UNESCO to Promote Cultural Heritage of India

  • Royal Enfield has partnered with UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) to promote and safeguard the 'Intangible Cultural Heritage of India, beginning with the Himalayas.
  • The programme is curated as an experiential and creative showcase of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) practices in the Western Himalayas and the North Eastern region.

UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List: India nominated Garba

  • India has nominated the Indian dance form Garba to be inscribed on UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage list. Last year, Durga Puja was included in UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage list and for 2022, India has nominated 'Garba'. The next UNESCO meeting will be held in November.
  • In July, India was elected by UNESCO to serve on the distinguished intergovernmental Committee of the 2003 Convention for the safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. A total of 14 elements from India are inscribed on UNESCO'S list of Intangible Cultural Heritage and Humanity. These elements include music, dance, theatre, festivals, rituals, and storytelling.

Scotland Museum Signs Deal to Return 7 Ancient Stolen Artefacts to India

  • Museums in the Scottish city of Glasgow signed an agreement with the Indian government to repatriate seven stolen artefacts to India.
  • Glasgow Life, a charitable organisation which runs the city's museums, had confirmed the handover earlier this year and the arrangement was formalised at a transfer of ownership ceremony at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in the presence of Acting Indian High Commissioner to the UK Sujit Ghosh.
  • The seven antiquities to now find their way back to India include a ceremonial Indo-Persian talwar or sword, believed to date back to the 14th century, and an 11th century carved stone door jamb taken from a temple in Kanpur.

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh unveiled the Statue of Veer Durgadas Rathore on his 385th birth anniversary in Rajasthan's Jodhpur.
  • Veer Durgadas Rathore single-handedly preserved the rule of the Rathore dynasty over Marwar (Jodhpur) after the death of Maharaja Jaswant Singh in the 17th century.

World's Highest Railway Bridge 'Golden Joint' Launched on Chenab in J&K

  • Decked with the national flag, the 'Golden Joint' of the Chenab Railway Bridge was launched thereby inaugurating the World's highest railway bridge.
  • To commemorate 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav', the world's highest bridge in Reasi district of J&K was decked up with the Tricolour by the workers on this occasion.
