Lesley Lokko Wins Royal Gold Medal

  • Ghanaian-Scottish architect and educator Lesley Lokko was named the recipient the 2024 Royal Gold Medal by the Royal Institute of British Architects, making her the first African woman to win the award.
  • Lokko, who is also an educator and curator, is the third woman to receive the prestigious accolade in her own right – rather than as part of a team – since it was established in 1848. The others are architects Zaha Hadid and Yasmeen Lari.
  • As per the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), Lokko was selected for relentlessly pursuing inclusivity and equity in the field.

Assam Baibhav Award for Ex-CJI Ranjan Gogoi

  • The Assam government named Member of Parliament and former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi as recipient of the Assam Baibhav award, the state's highest civilian honour. He was credited for playing a part in the establishment of the Ram temple in Ayodhya through the apex court judgment delivered under his leadership as CJI.

Emmys Awards 2024

  • The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards were handed out at the Peacock Theater in an edition that comes after a year of historic Hollywood turbulence in an industry whose upheavals are evident everywhere.
  • Some of the winners are: Best Drama Series – Succession, Best Actor in a Drama Series - Kieran Culkin (Succession), Best Actress in a Drama Series - Sarah Snook (Succession), Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series - Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) and Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series - Jennifer Coolidge (The White Lotus).

Atsuya Technologies Wins Genesis Innovator at National Start-up Awards 2023

  • Atsuya Technologies was named as 'Genesis Innovator' at the National Start-up Awards 2023. A deep tech start-up based in Chennai, Atsuya Technologies is recognised for employing technologies like internet of thing (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) to redefine operational excellence in businesses, with a focus on sustainability.
  • Organised annually by Start-up India, National Start-up Awards acknowledges contributions and innovations by start-ups across diverse industries.
  • Established in 2016, Start-up India is a government initiative dedicated to fortifying the start-up ecosystem in the country.

Critics Choice Awards 2024

  • Director Christopher Nolan's biopic drama film 'Oppenheimer' was the biggest winner at the Critics Choice Awards 2024.The Cillian Murphy starrer bagged awards in 8 categories including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, Best Score, and Best Acting Ensemble.
  • It is followed by Margot Robbie's fantasy comedy film Barbie with 6 wins out of their record-breaking 18 nominations including Best Comedy, and Best Original Song.

Lionel Messi Crowned Best FIFA Men's Player for 2023

  • Argentina World Cup winner Lionel Messi was crowned Best FIFA Men's Player for 2023 after enjoying a stellar year. Messi who led his national side to their third FIFA World Cup win in December 2022 received the honour and saw off competition from Manchester City's Erling Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe. In the women's category, Aitana Bonmati received the award for FIFA's Best Player having led Spain to the FIFA World Cup and Barcelona to the Champions League glory.

CNN-News18 Indian of the Year 2023 Awards

  • Bollywood's Badshaah, Shah Rukh Khan, won the CNN-News18 Indian of the Year Award. This marked Shah Rukh Khan's first-ever media appearance since 2019.
  • Mani Ratnam was honoured with the CNN News18 Indian of the Year 2023 in the field of Entertainment. The acclaimed filmmaker was presented the award by veteran screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar at the star-studded ceremony. Akhtar was part of the jury with former Solicitor General of India Harish Salve, retired Supreme Court judge, Justice Indu Malhotra, former Indian athlete and Vice-President of Athletics Federation of India Anju Bobby George, chairperson of R. P. Sanjiv Goenka Group Sanjiv Goenka, and environmental activist and lawyer Afroz Shah.
  • Other nominees for the 2023 award included actress Deepika Padukone, actor Manoj Bajpayee and actor Sunny Deol. Last year, the award was presented to Telugu actor Allu Arjun.
  • Currently in its 13th edition, CNN-News18 Indian of the Year is an initiative that recognises Indians who have made significant contributions to various fields and have had a profound impact on the nation. Since its inception in 2006, CNN-News18 Indian of the Year has firmly positioned itself as the biggest awards in the world of news television, celebrated for its unassailable credibility.

Indore, Surat are Cleanest Cities in India

  • Indore and Surat were declared joint cleanest cities in India as part of the Swachh Survekshan Awards-2023 presented by President Droupadi Murmu. Indore won the award for the seventh straight time. Navi Mumbai retained the third position.
  • Chandigarh won the SafaiMitra Suraksha award for city with best safety standards for sanitation workers.
