Publisher Pulls Philip Roth Book, Cuts Ties with Biographer

  • The publisher of a highly anticipated and widely discussed biography of Philip Roth is pulling the book and cutting ties with author Blake Bailey, who faces multiple allegations of sexual harassment and assault. W.W. Norton and Company previously released Bailey's memoir "The Splendid Things We Planned."
  • Norton is permanently putting out of print our editions of Philip Roth: The Biography and The Splendid Things We Planned, Blake Bailey's 2014 memoir," the publisher announced.
  • The stunning decision follows reports last week that Bailey, who in the 1990s taught eighth grade English in New Orleans, had behaved inappropriately with students and later sought sexual relationships. Two former students and a publishing executive have alleged that he assaulted them. Bailey was quickly dropped by his literary agency, the Story Factory, and Norton announced last week it would pause publication and publicity as it reviewed allegations.

Jhumpa Lahiri Comes Out With New Novel 'Whereabouts'

  • Renowned American author Jhumpa Lahiri has launched her new novel titled 'Whereabouts'. The book is an English translation of the Italian novel 'Ias Dove Mi Trovo' which was written by author Jhumpa Lahiri itself and published in 2018.
  • The novel has been translated into English by the author herself. The book is about an unnamed female protagonist over 45 years as she looks at her life, glancing, sideways, back and forth, chronicling life, relationships and burden of relationships, in short, succinct chapters.

New Book "Living Mountain" by Amitav Ghosh

  • 'The Living Mountain' is a new story by Jnanpith winner and internationally renowned author Amitav Ghosh, written during the course of the pandemic. It is a fable for the current times: a cautionary tale of how humans have systematically exploited nature, leading to an environmental collapse.
  • HarperCollins Publishers India will publish 'The Living Mountain' as a special standalone edition in January 2022 under its prestigious Fourth Estate imprint. The book will also be published simultaneously in Hindi, and as an e-book and an audio-book.
