Justice Gita Mittal Conferred Arline Pacht Global Vision Award

  • In a first for an Indian jurist, Justice Gita Mittal, former Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court, has been conferred with the prestigious Arline Pacht Global Vision Award for 2021 by the International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ).
  • The Award was presented at IAWJ's Biennial Conference during the virtual opening ceremony. She shared the honour with Justice Margarita Luna Ramos of Mexico.
  • International Association of Women Judges (IAWJ) instituted this award in 2016. Justice Mittal would be the first Indian judge to receive the award. Award is presented to a sitting/retired woman judge to recognize her contribution to IAWJ.
  • At present, Justice Mittal is the Chairperson of Broadcasting Content Complaints Council (BCCC), an independent, self-regulatory body for general entertainment channels set up by the Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF). She is the first woman to hold this position.

Singer Pink Bags Icon Award at Billboard Music Awards

  • Singer Pink will be honoured with the Icon Award at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs). The award aims to recognize artists who have achieved success on the Billboard charts and left an indelible impact on music. Pink joins previous honourees that include Neil Diamond, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion, Cher, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey and Garth Brooks.

Sheikh Zayed Book Award

  • Dr. Tahera Qutbuddin, a Mumbaikar by birth and a professor settled in US, became the first Indian to be chosen for the prestigious the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, touted as Arabic world's Nobel Prize for her book 'Arabic Oration: Art and Function'.
  • The Abu Dhabi Department of Cultural announces the award annually to people with exemplary work in the field of Arabic literature. It is aimed at showcasing the most powerful, stimulating and challenging works representing the Arab world.
  • A professor of Arabic Literature at the University of Chicago, Qutbuddin also serves on the editorial board of Abu Dhabi's Library of Arabic Literature. Her award-winning book was released by Brill Academic Publishers of Leiden in 2019.
  • Her research focuses on intersections of the literary, the religious and the political in classical Arabic poetry and prose.

Nripendra Misra Receives Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star Honour

  • The Government of Japan announced the foreign recipients of the 2021 Spring Decorations. Nripendra Misra, former Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister of India, and Indira Misra, former President of the Ikebana International Gurgaon Chapter, are among this year's foreign recipients, said a statement from Embassy of Japan in India.
  • Nripendra Misra will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star in recognition of his contributions to strengthening the economic relationship between Japan and India. Indira Misra, however, will receive the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays in recognition of her contributions to promoting Ikebana in India and mutual understanding between Japan and India.

Krithi Karanth First Indian Woman to be Chosen as a 'Wild Innovator'

  • Dr. Krithi K Karanth, Chief Conservation Scientist at Bengaluru-based Centre for Wildlife Studies (CWS), was chosen as the first Indian and Asian woman for the 2021 'WILD Innovator Award'.
  • This award given by the 'WILD ELEMENTS Foundation' brings together a coalition of innovators, advocates and partners to "disrupt the status quo and identify solutions to global sustainability and conservation," a CWS statement said on Tuesday.
  • The Foundation's distinctive approach to addressing climate change is the "Power of Three," recognising the interconnectedness of animalkind, humankind, and plantkind for the future planetary wellness of our shared home.

Uttar Pradesh Wins E-panchayat Award

  • The Uttar Pradesh government won the 'E-Panchayat Puraskar 2021', ranking first in Category I. It was followed by Assam and Chhattisgarh at the second position, while Odisha and Tamil Nadu stood third. Every year, the Union Ministry of Panchayati Raj awards those states, which ensure maximum use of information technology to keep a tab on the work done by gram panchayats.
