World Day for International Justice

The World Day for International Justice is observed on July 17 every year to recognise the strengthening system of international justice and also to promote the rights of the victims. Also known as the Day of International Criminal Justice, it marks the importance of fighting against impunity and bringing justice for the victims of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.
July 17 is the date of the adoption of the treaty that created the International Criminal Court. On 1 June 2010, at the Review Conference of the Rome Statute held in Kampala (Uganda), the Assembly of State Parties decided to celebrate July 17 as the Day of International Criminal Justice.
Each year, people around the world use this day to host events to promote international criminal justice, especially support for the International Criminal Court.

World Emoji Day

World Emoji Day is celebrated globally on July 17. This unique observance was established in 2014 by Jeremy Burge, the founder of Emojipedia, a widely-used online resource for emoji-related information.
Burge, who is an emoji enthusiast, recognised the growing influence and significance of emojis in modern communication. As such, he decided to create a dedicated day to honour these digital icons. July 17 was chosen as the date for World Emoji Day because it is the date that appears on the 'calendar' emoji.

Two-week-long Vijay Diwas Celebrations Take Off to Commemorate 25 Years of Kargil Victory

To commemorate 25 years of Kargil victory, Indian Air Force is celebrating 'Kargil Vijay Diwas Rajat Jayanti' at Air Force Station Sarsawa from 12 Jul to 26 Jul 24, honouring the brave hearts who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation. 152 Helicopter Unit, 'The Mighty Armour', of Air Force Station Sarsawa played a key role during Op Safed Sagar. On May 28, 1999, Sqn Ldr R Pundir, Flt Lt S. Muhilan, Sgt PVNR Prasad and Sgt R. K. Sahu of 152 HU were tasked to fly as 'Nubra' formation for a live strike against enemy positions at Tololing. After successfully pressing home the attack, their helicopter was hit by an enemy Stinger Missile during the break away, leading to the loss of four precious lives. For this act of exceptional courage, they were awarded Vayu Sena Medal (Gallantry), posthumously. Their supreme sacrifice ensured that their names forever remain etched in the annals of history of IAF forever.

World Youth Skills Day

On July 15, the world joined hands to celebrate 'World Youth Skills Day'. The purpose of this day is to recognise the potential of skilled youth in shaping a sustainable future.
World Youth Skills Day is a United Nations-designated observance that is celebrated annually. It is aimed at recognising and promoting the importance of equipping young people with skills for entrepreneurship, employment, decent work, and beyond.
Since its inception, World Youth Skills Day has played a pivotal role in highlighting the essential role of skilled youth in addressing global economic, social, and environmental challenges. It is a call to action to invest in empowering the next generation of leaders and innovators.
The theme for World Youth Skills Day 2024 is 'Youth Skills for Peace and Development'. It highlights the crucial role that young people play in peacebuilding and conflict resolution efforts.

Abu Dhabi Selected as 2025 International Jazz Day Global Host City

Every year on April 30, International Jazz Day is celebrated around the world, honouring the sound of artistic freedom. UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock announced that Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, will serve as the Global Host of the 2025 edition of International Jazz Day.
Presented in partnership with the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), the celebration will be anchored around its cultural heritage defined as a tapestry of an Arab and Emirati culture. Classical instruments like Oud, Qanoon and Ney will introduce global audiences to 'Arabic Jazz'. As the 2025 Global Host City, Abu Dhabi, the UNESCO Creative City of Music, will showcase the interplay of local musical traditions and Jazz dating back decades.

Centre Declares June 25 as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas'

The Government decided to observe June 25, the day the Emergency was declared in 1975, as 'Samvidhaan Hatya Diwas' to commemorate the massive contributions of those who endured inhuman pains of the period, Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced.
This is being seen as yet another attempt by the BJP to corner an increasingly aggressive Congress's allegations that it was attempting to take away reservation and change the Constitution.

International Day of Combating Sand and Dust Storms

The International Day of Combating Sand and Dust Storms is observed on July 12 on the recommendation of the United Nations General Assembly at Iran's intuitive in the backdrop of sand and dust storms and their negative impacts and their increased frequency in recent times.
The U.N. General Assembly declared 2025 to 2034 the United Nations Decade on Combating Sand and Dust Storms — extreme weather events that are increasing and threatening health and economies from central Africa to northern China.

World Malala Day

On July 12, people worldwide celebrate World Malala Day, honouring the inspiring young activist Malala Yousafzai. The United Nations designated July 12 as World Malala Day to commemorate her contributions to advocating for women's and children's rights. This day, which marks Malala Yousafzai's birthday, is a global reminder of the importance of these rights.
Malala, a Pakistani educational campaigner, made history in 2014 when she became the youngest Nobel Peace Prize laureate at the age of 17. World Malala Day also underscores the continued fight for education and equality for women and children everywhere.
She gained international recognition for her courageous activism in her homeland, the Swat Valley in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northwest Pakistan, where the Pakistani Taliban intermittently banned girls from attending school. Renowned for her dedication to human rights, especially in championing the education of women and children, Malala's mission has grown into a global movement, with former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi referring to her as Pakistan's "most prominent citizen."
