US Approves Potential Sales of Howitzers to Taiwan

The US State Department approved the potential sale of 40 155mm M109A6 Medium Self-Propelled Howitzer artillery systems to Taiwan in a deal valued at up to US$750 million.
This comes after arms sales last year that included drones and coastal missile defenses meant to upgrade the island's capabilities and discourage a Chinese invasion. The Biden administration has approved other direct commercial sales of arms to Taiwan since taking office.
The package would include the howitzers, 1,698 precision guidance kits for munitions, spares, training, ground stations and upgrades for Taiwan's previous generation of howitzers.

Bharat Dynamics Signs MoU to Invest in UP Defence Corridor

Hyderabad-based missile and ammunition manufacturers Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (EIDA).
BDL is the country's sole Defence Public Sector Company, manufacturing missiles and underwater weapons for the armed forces.
As part of its diversification and expansion strategy, BDL announced the establishment of a manufacturing unit in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor in Jhansi.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in presence of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Chairman and Managing Director of BDL Commodore Siddharth Mishra in Lucknow.
The new facility will manufacture propulsion systems for various types of missiles.

IAC Vikrant, India's First Indigenous Aircraft Carrier, Begins Maiden Sea Trial

The sea trials of India's first indigenous aircraft carrier (IAC) Vikrant, the largest and most complex warship built in the country have begun.
The 40,000-tonne aircraft carrier is expected to be commissioned into the Indian Navy in the second half of next year.
With the building of indigenous aircraft carrier, India joins a select group of nations having niche capability to indigenously design, build and integrate a state-of-the-art aircraft carrier.

Ordnance Factory Launches New Weapon 'Trichy Carbine'

The Ordnance Factory Tiruchirappalli (OFT) in Tamil Nadu launched a new high-tech and low sound weapon called TriCa (Trichy Carbine), a mini version of the Trichy Assault Rifle (TAR). It was unveiled by General Manager of OFT Sanjay Dwivedi, IOFS (Indian Ordnance Factories Service).
The lighter and compact weapon, carbine TriCa is designed for the infantry combat vehicle, helicopter crew and security personnel for operations that call for a compact and relatively powerful individual automatic weapon.

Egypt Receives Fourth German S-44 Submarine

Egypt received the fourth German-made S-44 submarine at its Alexandria naval base. The model 209/1400 mod 4 submarine was shipped from the German port city of Kiel.
This latest addition to Egyptian naval forces represents a huge reinforcement for the capabilities of the Egyptian army, which will contribute to the protection of the country's economic resources in the Mediterranean and Red Seas, as well as the Suez Canal.
The four diesel-electric submarines received between December 2016 and August 2021 are the result of a 2011 contract between the Egyptian Navy and German company ThyssenKrupp for two subs, and an additional two added in 2015.

Australian Navy to Join Indian Fleet in New War Games

Indian warships will exercise with the Australian navy as part of a two-month deployment to the South China Sea and western Pacific, in the latest effort by nations to strengthen maritime co-operation in the face of an increasingly assertive China.
Australian and Indian warships will also join Japanese and American vessels for exercises off the coast of Guam, the second time the four nations have participated in India's flagship Malabar naval exercises since the revival of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue.

US Approves Sale of Harpoon Joint Common Test Sets

The United States has approved the sale of Harpoon Joint Common Test Set (JCTS) and related equipment to India for an estimated cost of $82 million.
The proposed Foreign Military Sale will improve India's capability to meet current and future threats by providing with flexible and efficient Harpoon missile maintenance capabilities to ensure maximum force readiness.
Noting that India will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment into its armed forces, the Pentagon said the proposed sale of this equipment and support would not alter the basic military balance in the region.

German Air Force Declares Meteor Missile Ready for Eurofighter Fleet

The German air force has completed flight tests for its newest air-to-air missile, the Meteor, and has deemed the weapon ready for use aboard the nation's Eurofighter Typhoon fleet.
The Luftwaffe's Tactical Air Wing 74 completed initial flight tests of Eurofighter aircraft loaded with operational Meteor missiles last June at Neuberg Air Base in Bavaria. Two jets were involved in the campaign, and the air force gathered live flying data to consider aircraft performance and system indications when carrying the missile.
The Meteor, built by European missile maker MBDA, is the third and latest missile in the nation's Eurofighter weapon arsenal, which also includes AIM-120 advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles (AMRAAMs) and Infra-Red Imaging System-Tail (IRIS-T) short-range missiles. A Eurofighter pilot interviewed in the video said that the service will incorporate four Meteor missile systems, two AMRAAMs and two IRIS-T missiles on each aircraft.

Ukrainian Missile Maker Secures $200 Million Contract for R-27 Production

Kyiv-based missile maker Artem holding company was awarded a $200 million contract from the unnamed customer for R-27 medium-range air-to-air missile production.
Artem director Vladimir Zimin said that the company received an advance payment and began to fulfil the largest contract for the last 10-15 years for the supply of R-27 missiles worth more than $ 200 million.
An unnamed Asian customer, speculated to be India has contracted Artem to supply a batch of medium-range missiles designed to intercept and destroy hostile piloted aircraft, drone targets and cruise missiles in a long-range and close-in dogfight.
The R-27 is a family of air-to-air missiles originally designed by the Russian design bureau Vympel and built by Russian firm Vympel and Ukrainian Artem.
