Defence Ministry Okays Acquisition of Arms, Equipment Worth Rs. 7,965 crore

The Defence Ministry approved the procurement of arms and military equipment worth Rs. 7,965-crore, including 12 light utility helicopters from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
The procurement proposals were approved at a meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), the ministry's highest decision-making body on the matter.
Besides clearing the proposal to buy 12 helicopters, the DAC approved the procurement of Lynx U2 naval gunfire control system from Bharat Electronics Limited that will enhance the tracking and engagement capabilities of naval warships.

Air Forces of India and Egypt Conduct Two-day Joint Exercise

Air forces of India and Egypt conducted a two-day exercise at the latter's El Berigat airbase to enhance mutual understanding and share operational experience. The exercise was called 'Desert Warrior'.
In December 2019, then Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria had visited Egypt and met Air Marshal Mohamed Abbas Helmy, the Commander-in-Chief of Egypt Air Force, to boost cooperation between the two services.
The IAF and Egyptian Air Force participated in Exercise Desert Warrior conducted at El Berigat Air Base, Egypt from 30-31 Oct 2021. It enhanced mutual understanding and provided an opportunity to share valuable operational experience.

Lt Gen Khanduri Takes over as GOC, Western Command

Lieutenant General Nav K. Khanduri took over as the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Command, at Chandimandir. He is the first Air Defence officer to be appointed as Army Commander. Prior to this, he was the Director General, Operational Logistics and Strategic Movement at Army HQs.
An alumnus of Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun and the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, he passed out with the 73rd Regular Course from the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun and was commissioned into 27 Air Defence Regiment (Amritsar Airfield) in December 1983.

Indian Army Undertaking High Altitude Airborne Drill in Eastern Ladakh

In a show of strength on the border with China, the Army is carrying out high-altitude airborne drills in Eastern Ladakh, demonstrating the ability to land soldiers and equipment behind enemy lines. The drills, being carried out by the 50 Para brigade (also known as Shatrujeet), include dropping of missile detachments and specialist vehicles at altitudes of over 14,000 feet.
Pre-acclimatised troops along with specialist vehicles and missile detachments were transported via C-130 and AN 32 aircrafts from five different mounting bases to validate inter-theatre move, precision stand-off drops, rapid grouping and capture of designated objectives with speed and surprise.
The decision to carry out such a large scale exercise, which simulates bringing in troops from other theatres to the frontier, is of significance, given the continued Chinese military aggression on the border, with incidents of transgressions being reported from all sectors of the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Navy Receives its First Stealth-guided Missile Destroyer

The Indian Navy received first of the four stealth-guided missile destroyer, most of which was designed and developed indigenously to enhance India's sea line security.
The lead ship named Visakhapatnam has been made by Mazgaon Docks Limited. Its keel was laid in October 2013. It has been constructed using indigenous steel DMR 249A.
Designed by Directorate of Naval Design, the four ships are christened after major cities from all four corners of the country —Visakhapatnam, Mormugao, Imphal and Surat.

India, Israel Agree to form Task Force to Identify New Areas of Defence Cooperation

The Joint Working Group (JWG) of India and Israel has agreed to form a task force to formulate a comprehensive 10-year roadmap to identify new areas of defence cooperation. The 15th meeting of the JWG took place in Tel Aviv, Israel. It was co-chaired by Indian Defence Secretary Ajay Kumar and Director General of Israel's Defence Ministry Amir Eshel, according to a statement issued by the ministry.
It was also decided at the meeting that a sub-working group (SWG) on defence industry cooperation would be formed, and a term of reference was signed by the two countries in this regard.
