QCI Launches Indian Certification of Medical Devices Plus Scheme

Quality Council of India (QCI) and Association of Indian Manufacturers of Medical Devices (AiMeD) have launched "Indian Certification of Medical Devices Plus (ICMED) Scheme".
ICMED scheme added further features to the ICMED Scheme that was launched in 2016 for Certification of Medical Devices.
This scheme will undertake verification of quality, safety and efficacy of medical devices.
Scheme has been designed to integrate Quality Management System components and product related quality validation processes by witness testing of products with respect to the defined product standards and specifications.
This is the first such scheme across the world in which quality management systems & product certification standards are integrated with regulatory requirements.
It will be an end-to-end quality assurance scheme for medical devices sector in India and much-needed institutional mechanism to assure the product quality and safety.
QCI was set up in 1997 as public private partnership model based on the model existing in Netherlands. QCI was organised as an independent autonomous body which worked for assuring quality standards across all spheres of economic and social activities. It was established under Societies Registration Act in 1997 to provide accreditation services across different sectors for product, services and persons.

Cabinet Nod for Inland Vessels Bill

The Union Cabinet gave the nod to the Inland Vessels Bill, 2021, which will replace the Inland Vessels Act, 1917.
Total 4,000 km inland waterways have been operationalised. The Bill will regulate safety, security and registration of inland vessels.
A key feature of the Bill is a unified law for the entire country, instead of separate rules framed by the States. The certificate of registration granted under the proposed law will be deemed to be valid in all States and Union Territories, and there will be no need to seek separate permissions from the States.
The Bill provides for a central database for recording the details of vessel, vessel registration, crew on an electronic portal. It requires all mechanically propelled vessels to be mandatorily registered. All non-mechanically propelled vessels will also have to be enrolled at district, taluk or panchayat or village level.

Mamata Banerjee Launches Krishak Bondhu Scheme

West Bengal government announced the approval of Krishak Bondhu Scheme which will extend financial benefits to farmers with a minimum Rs. 4,000 to each farmer in the state. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee informed that the 'Notun Krishak Bondhu Scheme' is expected to benefit 60 lakh farmers in Bengal.
Farmers will now receive an increased financial support from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10,000 for one acre or more of cultivable land.
Those having less than one acre of cultivable land will now receive a minimum of Rs. 4,000 per annum, on a pro-rata basis.

'Medicines from the Sky': Project

E-commerce major Flipkart has partnered with Telangana government to lead a consortium tasked with the development and execution of the drone deliveries of medical supplies to remote areas under the 'Medicines from the Sky' project.
As part of the consortium, Walmart-owned Flipkart will deploy drones and enable deliveries of vaccines and medical supplies.
These efforts will be complemented with technologies such as geo mapping, routing of shipments and track and trace of location etc, developed by Flipkart over the years in serving millions of customers across the country.
The 'Medicines from the Sky' is a project conceived by the World Economic Forum and Healthnet Global Limited that outlines the requirements for drone delivery and how to assess proposals.

UN body Lauds Success of Centre's Aspirational Districts Programme

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has lauded the Centre's Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP), saying that it should serve as a "best practice" for other countries where regional disparities in development status persist for many reasons.
In a report, the UNDP said, "Overall, ADP is a very successful model of local area development. It is aligned to the principle of "leave no one behind" – the vital core of the SDGs."
"Political commitment at the highest level has resulted in rapid success of the programme. It should serve as a best practice for several other countries where regional disparities in development status persist for many reasons," the UNDP said in the report.

CM Himanta Sarma Announces Welfare Schemes for Orphans, Widows

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a slew of welfare schemes for children who lost their parents to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and women who lost their husbands to the virus.
Under the Chief Minister's Sishu Seva scheme, children will receive a fixed deposit of Rs. 781,000 with a monthly interest of Rs. 3,500 till they attain the age of 24. The principal amount of Rs. 781,000 will be credited to the account of the beneficiary. Apart from this, children will also receive a laptop and a skill-based education. Girls of marriageable age will receive Rs. 50,000 and one tola gold under the Arundhati scheme.
The Assam government announced the Sishu Seva scheme 10 days on the completion of the seven years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre.
