Nobel Prize 2022: Winners of Physics Awarded for Research in Quantum Tech
Alain Aspect, John F. Clauser, and Anton Zeilinger won the 2022 Nobel Prize in Physics for experiments with entangled photons, establishing the violation of Bell inequalities and pioneering quantum information science.
The three laureates conducted groundbreaking experiments using entangled quantum states, where two particles behave like a single unit even when they are separated. Their results cleared the way for new technology based on quantum information.
The announcement came a day after the Nobel Committee announced the winner in the field of medicine kickstarting a week-long spree of announcements from across the field of science, literature, and economics.
Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel Wins UN Refugee Prize
Former German chancellor Angela Merkel won the United Nations refugee agency's prestigious Nansen Award, receiving praise for her determination to protect asylum seekers while in office.
Pointing to the more than 1.2 million refugees and asylum seekers welcomed by Germany in 2015 and 2016, at the height of migrant crisis sparked especially by the war in Syria, the UNHCR selection committee hailed Merkel's "leadership, courage and compassion."
The annual Nansen Award was created in 1954 in honour of the first UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Norwegian Arctic explorer and humanitarian Fridtjof Nansen, to mark outstanding work on behalf of refugees.
It honours individuals, groups or organisations for going above and beyond the call of duty to protect refugees and other displaced and stateless people.

Anil Agarwal Honoured with Global Indian Award in Canada
Vedanta founder Anil Agarwal was honoured with the Global Indian Award worth $50,000 by the Canada-India Foundation at its 15th annual gala.
Agarwal donated the award money to a Canadian health charity working for the welfare of native Indians.
Accepting the award at a star-studded gala event that included Ontario Premier Doug Ford, ministers and Indian consul general Apoorva Srivastava, the mining tycoon lauded the achievements of the 1.6 million-strong Indo-Canadian community in this country.
Raghupati Singhania Receives PHDCCI Lifetime Achievement Award for 2022
JK Tyre & Industries Chairman Raghupati Singhania was conferred the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry's (PHDCCI's) prestigious lifetime achievement award for 2022 by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla at the chamber's 117th annual session.
The event felicitated industry stalwarts who had transformed society, made outstanding contribution to improving the community, set benchmarks in entrepreneurship, and demonstrated exemplary leadership qualities.
Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2022 Awards: Telangana Wins First Prize
Telangana won the first prize under the large states category under the Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2022 which looks into the sanitation status of rural areas.
Haryana secured the second position while Tamil Nadu was third.
The awards were presented by President Droupadi Murmu.
The Swachh Survekshan Gramin-2022 award by the Jal Shakti ministry ranked states and districts on the basis of their performance attained on key quantitative and qualitative Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin (SBM-G) parameters and engagement of the rural community in improvement of their sanitation status.
Nobel Prize 2022: Svante Pääbo Awarded Nobel Prize in Medicine
The Nobel Prize 2022 for medicine or physiology was awarded to Swedish geneticist Svante Pääbo. Svante Pääbo was given the award "for his discoveries concerning the genomes of extinct hominins and human evolution."
Announcing the award, the Nobel committee said that the scientists sequenced the genome of the Neanderthal, an extinct relative of present-day humans, and made the sensational discovery of a previously unknown hominin, Denisova.
Born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1955, Svante Paabo is currently the director of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig. He completed his medical studies at the University of Uppsala and began part-time research and teaching at the Department of Cell Biology, Uppsala, and Roche Institute for Molecular Biology in 1980.

President of India Presents Swachh Survekshan Awards 2022
The Union government's annual awards for the cleanest cities were handed out by President Droupadi Murmu.
The Swachh Survekshan 2022, or cleanliness survey that is part of the Swachh Bharat Mission, covered 100% of municipal wards for sampling this time — a first — as opposed to 40% in previous years. Over 160 awards across various categories were presented.
Indore was adjudged the cleanest city for the sixth time in a row followed by Surat and Navi Mumbai with populations of above one lakh. Panchgani in Maharashtra, Patan in Chhattisgarh, and Karad, Maharashtra bagged the top three awards in the cleanest cities category with a population of below one lakh.
Writer-academic Madhav Hada to be Awarded 32nd Bihari Puraskar
Writer Dr. Madhav Hada wouldl be awarded the 32nd Bihari Puraskar for his 2015 literary criticism book 'Pachrang Chola Pahar Sakhi Ri', the KK Birla Foundation announced.
The Bihari Puraskar is one of the three literary awards instituted by the foundation in 1991. Named after famous Hindi poet Bihari, the award is given every year for an outstanding work published in the last 10 years by a Rajasthani author in Hindi or Rajasthani. It carries a cash prize of Rs. 2.5 lakh, a plaque and a citation. The recipient is chosen by a selection committee headed by chairman Hemant Shesh.
A literary critic and academic, Hada has written extensively on literature, media, culture and history. He has also been a member of the general council of the Sahitya Akademi and the Hindi Advisory Board. He has been a recipient of the Bhartendu Harishchandra Award for Media Studies and the Devraj Upadhyay Award for Literary Criticism.
Valley of Words Book Awards: 'Tagore & Gandhi' Wins in English non-fiction
Anees Salim's The Odd Book of Baby Names (English fiction) and Rudrangshu Mukherjee's Tagore & Gandhi: Walking Alone, Walking Together (English non-fiction) were among the eight that were adjudged the best books of the year at the 'Valley of Words Book Awards'. The PFC-VoW Book Awards is considered one of the most comprehensive independent literary award programmes in India.

President Droupadi Murmu Present 68th National Film Awards
President Droupadi Murmu presented the 68th National Film Awards in New Delhi. Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2020 was given to legendary actress Asha Parekh for her exemplary lifetime contribution to Indian Cinema.
The best Feature Film award was given to Tamil film Soorarai Pottru. Hindi film Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior' got Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
Dangi language non-feature film Testimony of Ana was given an award for Best Non-Feature Film. Marathi Film Funeral was awarded Best Film on Social Issues.
Ajay Devgan and Suriya was given the Best Actor award for films Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Soorarai Pottru. Aparna Balamurali was given the Best Actress Award for Soorarai Pottru. Sachidanandan KR was given the Best Director Award for Malayalam Film AK Ayyappanum Koshiyum. Marathi Film Sumi was given an award for Best Children's Film.

Women's Rights Activist Srishti Bakshi wins 'Changemaker' Award at UN SDG Action Awards
Srishti Bakshi, a women's rights activist from India, who travelled 3,800 km through the length of the country in less than a year to raise awareness on gender-based violence and inequality, has won a prestigious honour at the UN SDG Action Awards.
Srishti, marketer-turned-women's-rights-activist, was honoured with the 'Changemaker' award at the UN SDG Action Awards for "confronting gender-based violence and advocating for safe access to public spaces."
Bakshi embarked on an on-foot pilgrimage of 3,800 kilometers through 12 Indian states from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, not only to put a spotlight on the causes of violence against women, but also to empower women and reveal stories of resilience by conducting over 100 workshops focused on women's safety, along with digital and financial literacy.
