Karnataka Bank was awarded the National Digital Transformation Awards, DX 2022 Awards, by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for best practice in digital transformation under the BFSI (banking, financial services and insurance) segment.
The awards recognise 'innovative excellence' in three categories: employee engagement, operational excellence, and customer experience.

HCL Founder Shiv Nadar Gets USISPF's Lifetime Achievement Award 2022
HCL founder Shiv Nadar was honoured by the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF), a bilateral non-profit, with its Lifetime Achievement Award 2022 for his contribution to the technology industry and philanthropy.
The billionaire's Shiv Nadar Foundation invested $1.1 billion in philanthropic initiatives, particularly in education. The USISPF said that HCL has been an IT services leader for over 45 years and is at the forefront of the technological revolution since 1976.
The USISPF was established in 2017 to strengthen US-India bilateral and strategic partnership. It also works on improving economic and commercial ties between the two countries through policy advocacy.

EU Parliament Awards Sakharov Prize to People of Ukraine
The European parliament awarded the people of Ukraine its annual Sakharov Prize for freedom of thought to honour their fight against Russia's invasion.
The award comes with prize money of €50,000 (£43,560), which would be distributed to representatives of Ukrainian civil society.
The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, expressed gratitude for the EU's support.
The EU award, named for Soviet dissident Andrei Sakharov, was created in 1988 to honour individuals or groups who defend human rights and fundamental freedoms.

American Historian Conferred Sir Syed Excellence Award for 2022
Noted American historian Prof. Barbara Metcalf was awarded the Sir Syed Excellence Award 2022 by the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on the 205th birth anniversary of its founder Sir Syed Ahmad Khan. Prof. Metcalf has written extensively on the history of the Muslim population of India and Pakistan. Muslims constituted a full quarter of the population at the time of Independence and an important share of the Indian citizenry in the Republic of India thereafter. Yet their histories are understudied and are essential to telling India's history well.

Shehan Karunatilaka Wins Booker Prize for Afterlife Thriller
Sri Lankan author Shehan Karunatilaka was named the winner of the 2022 Booker Prize for his second novel 'The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida', described by judges as a whodunit and a race against time, full of ghosts, gags and deep humanity.
Karunatilaka became only the second Sri Lankan born to win the prestigious GBP 50,000 literary prize at a ceremony in London, after Michael Ondaatje who won for 'The English Patient' in 1992.
The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida' tells the story of the photographer of its title, who in 1990 wakes up dead in what seems like a celestial visa office. With no idea who killed him, Maali has seven moons to contact the people he loves most and leads them to a hidden cache of photos of civil war atrocities that will rock Sri Lanka.
