Indian-origin Sikh Wins NSW Australian of the Year Award
Amar Singh an Indian-origin Sikh volunteer, who experienced ethnic slurs because of his beard and turban, was honoured along with three others with the prestigious 2023 New South Wales Australian of the Year Award for supporting the community during floods, bushfires, drought and the pandemic.
The national award honoured the achievements of community members, while emphasising the importance of service to the nation of Australia.
Amar Singh, a Sikh, founded the "Turbans 4 Australia" seven years ago, a charity organisation that works towards supporting the displaced and the vulnerable impacted by natural calamities.
Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Announces National Sports Awards 2022
Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports announced the National Sports Awards 2022. The awardees will receive their awards from the President of India at a specially organized function at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 30th November, 2022.
Based on the recommendations of the Committee and after due scrutiny, Government has decided to confer awards upon the following sportspersons, coaches and entities.
This year, for the first time, applications were invited only online and sportspersons/coaches/entities were permitted to self-apply through a dedicated portal.
A large number of nominations were received for these awards this year, which were considered by the Selection Committee headed by Justice A. M. Khanwilkar, Retd. Judge, Supreme Court of India and consisting members from eminent sportspersons, persons having experience in sports journalism and sports administrators.

Nobel Laureate Venki Ramakrishnan Awarded UK's Royal Order of Merit
India-born Nobel laureate Professor Venki Ramakrishnan was awarded the prestigious Order of Merit by Britain's King Charles III in recognition of his distinguished service to science.
The UK-based molecular biologist is among six appointments made to the historic order by the late Queen Elizabeth II before her death in September and the first to be appointed by Charles.
The Order of Merit is an exclusive mark of honour conferred by the British sovereign.
Professor Venki was born in Chidambaram in Tamil Nadu and studied biology in the US before moving to the UK where he is the Group Leader of the leading research hub MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology at Cambridge University.
He received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2009 for his work on ribosomal structure and was knighted by the Queen in 2012. He was President of the UK's Royal Society from November 2015 until November 2020.
Gandhi Peace Pilgrim Award Presented to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in Atlanta
Indian spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravishankar was presented the Gandhi Peace Pilgrimage award in Atlanta in recognition of his efforts to spread the messages of peace and non-violence as espoused by Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Martin Luther King Jr.
The prestigious award given by the Gandhi Foundation of the US was presented to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in the presence of Isaac Farris, nephew of Dr Martin Luther King Jr and India's Consul General in Atlanta Swati Kulkarni.
Writers Madhu Kankariya, Madhav Hada Awarded the Bihari Puraskar
Noted writers Madhu Kankariya and Madhav Hada were awarded the 31st and 32nd Bihari Puraskar, respectively.
The Bihari Puraskar is one of the three literary awards instituted by K.K. Birla Foundation in 1991. Named after the famous poet Bihari, the award for Rajasthani authors carries a cash prize of Rs. 2.5 lakh, a plaque and a citation.
Kankariya was awarded the Puraskar for her 2018 novel 'Hum Yahan The' while Hada was awarded for his 2015 literary criticism book 'Pachrang Chola Pahar Sakhi Ri'.
The awards to the writers were given by Indravardhan Trivedi, vice-chancellor of Mohan Lal Sukhadia University in Udaipur.
The Bihari Puraskar is given every year for an outstanding work published in the last 10 years by a Rajasthani author in Hindi or Rajasthani. The recipient is chosen by a selection committee headed by chairman Hemant Shesh.

YKC Wadiyar Receives International Kannadiga Rathna Award 2022
Member of the erstwhile royal family, Yaduveer Krishndatta Chamaraja (YKC) Wadiyar was selected for the International Kannada Rathna award. It is presented annually by Dubai Kannadigas to mark Kannada Rajyothsava. The award will be presented to YKC Wadiyar during Vishwa Kannada Habba on November 19 at Sheikh Rashid Auditorium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in association with Kannadigaru Dubai Sangha as part of celebration of the 67th Kannada Rajyothsava. Besides, Vishwamanya Award would be presented to achievers in various fields.

Indian-American Professor Receives Amazon Research Award
An Indian-American professor of computer science at a university in the US received an Amazon Research Award to design a tool that minimises negative user experiences.
Pavithra Prabhakar, who is the Peggy and Gary Edwards chair in engineering, was one of 74 recipients of the awards from Amazon, which also included an unrestricted gift, access to more than 300 Amazon public datasets, and Amazon Web Services' artificial intelligence and machine learning services and tools.
