Odisha, to become a leading state in the country -- both in terms of income and climate resilience -- has launched a new economic framework co-led by IIM Sambalpur.
In collaboration with the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) and the University of Maryland, the institute is helping shape a roadmap that ties together job creation, sustainable growth, and environmental protection.
At the centre of this initiative is Economic Transition Coalition Odisha (ETCO), a platform that brings together academic institutions, government, and industry to plan Odisha's shift towards a low-carbon and inclusive economy.
India Gets First School Made of Sugarcane Waste Bricks in Noida
A new school building made entirely from sugarcrete, a construction block made from sugarcane waste, opened in Noida, Uttar Pradesh, which became a turning point in low-carbon architecture in India.
The project is a collaboration between the University of East London (UEL), Indian manufacturer Chemical Systems Technologies (CST), and Panchsheel Balak Inter College (PBIC), where the structure now stands.
India stands at the top in sugarcane production globally, which means it is now possible to use alternatives to soil-made bricks in construction.
'Vidya Shakti': Andhra Pradesh's Digital Push to Empower Slow Learners
Andhra Pradesh took a progressive step in education with the launch of 'Vidya Shakti', a remedial learning initiative focused on slow learners in government schools.
Designed to improve academic performance, reduce dropout rates, and increase enrolment, the program marks a significant shift towards inclusive education.
'Vidya Shakti' is an online remedial education programme that targets academically lagging students in Mathematics, Science, and English.
It uses technology-based tools and after-school sessions to bridge learning gaps.
The initiative is currently being rolled out in a phased manner across Andhra Pradesh.

Tripura Third State to Achieve Full Literacy
Tripura was declared fully literate under the 'ULLAS – Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram (New India Literacy Programme)', a centrally sponsored scheme implemented from 2022 to 2027.
Tripura CM Manik Saha said that Tripura had become the third state in the country — after Mizoram and Goa — to achieve full literacy, with the literacy rate soaring to 95.6%, a remarkable leap from just 20.24% in 1961.
He credited this achievement to the successful implementation of the ULLAS programme, in line with the vision of the National Education Policy-2020.
The official declaration was made at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan, Agartala, in the presence of distinguished dignitaries from the Centre and the state.

Professor Suman Chakraborty, a renowned mechanical engineer and innovator in affordable diagnostic technologies, was appointed as the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. His five-year term began following the interim tenure of Professor Amit Patra, Director of IIT-BHU. Professor Chakraborty is celebrated for developing low-cost clinical solutions for diseases such as anaemia, cancer, and COVID-19 and is currently a J.C. Bose National Fellow.
He was awarded the TWAS Award in Engineering and Computer Sciences by UNESCO.

Prof M. Satish Kumar Appointed First Dean of Queen's University Belfast's GIFT City Campus
Queen's University Belfast (QUB) appointed Prof M. Satish Kumar as first dean of its new campus in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City).
Prof Kumar will take up the role in July 2025 and will be based in the new GIFT City campus, which will commence admissions for its first batch of students in early 2026.
Prior to this appointment, Prof Kumar was in the School of Natural and Built Environment at QUB for over 25 years. He was previously the Director of Queen's Academy India and of Internationalisation, playing a pivotal role in enhancing the University's global presence in South Asia.

UPSC Launches Pratibha Setu to Help Top Exam Qualifiers Find Jobs
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) launched Pratibha Setu, earlier known as Public Disclosure Scheme, to help high-performing candidates who cleared all UPSC exams but missed the final merit list. The scheme aims to connect them with both government bodies and private employers.
Pratibha Setu includes more than 10,000 candidates from exams such as the Civil Services, Engineering Services, Forest Services, CAPF, Medical Services, Geo-Scientist, and IES/ISS. These candidates have passed all examination stages but were not recommended for final selection.
THE Impact Rankings 2025
In a boost to India's global academic reputation, four Indian universities secured spots in the top 100 of the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2025, which assess universities on their contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham (Rank 41) and Lovely Professional University (Rank 48) are the highest-ranked Indian institutions, with JSS Academy and Shoolini University also earning global praise for their sustainability-led educational initiatives.
The rankings are based on indicators like research, outreach, and campus operations across several SDGs, such as climate action, quality education, clean energy, and gender equality.
Western Sydney University retains top rank globally for the 4th consecutive year.
Asian universities dominate top 50 with 22 entries.
