World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims

The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (WDR) is observed on the third Sunday of November each year (November 17 in 2024). It is a global event dedicated to honouring the millions of lives lost or severely affected by road traffic accidents. This day also highlights the suffering of victims, their families, and communities, while advocating for stronger action to prevent road crashes and their consequences.
The idea of a day to honor road traffic victims began with church services in the UK in 1993 and 1994.
These services were coordinated by RoadPeace, a charity for road traffic victims established in 1992.
In 1995, RoadPeace, along with other road victim organizations under the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims (FEVR), agreed to observe a common day of remembrance on the third Sunday of November.
In 2004, the UN Road Safety Collaboration (UNRSC) considered establishing a global day to emphasize road safety, and the endorsement of the World Day of Remembrance was suggested.
On October 26, 2005, the UN General Assembly adopted the World Day of Remembrance as an official recognition for road traffic victims and their families.

International Students' Day

International Students' Day, celebrated globally on November 17, is a day that honors the spirit of student activism, the role of students in social change, and their contributions to shaping the world. The day acknowledges the struggles and aspirations of students while promoting the importance of education and equality.
International Students' Day was first observed on November 17, 1941, in response to the tragic events that occurred during the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia. On this day, 1,200 students were arrested, and several were executed for protesting the regime. The Nazi forces also shut down universities and sent students to concentration camps. This day was chosen to honor those students who fought for their rights and, by extension, all students who have sacrificed for the cause of freedom, education, and human rights.
The theme for International Students' Day 2024 focuses on the idea that "Students as Change-makers for a Better World". This theme highlights the ongoing fight for equality, freedom of speech, and the right to education for all. It encourages students worldwide to engage in activism, stand for justice, and create positive societal changes through education and collaboration.

National Press Day

National Press Day is observed every year on November 16 to commemorate the establishment of the Press Council of India (PCI) in 1966. This day serves as a reminder of the indispensable role of a free press in a vibrant democracy like India and highlights the importance of ethical journalism.
The theme for National Press Day 2024 is "Changing Nature of the Press", reflecting the evolving dynamics of the media landscape.

International Day for Tolerance

Every year, International Day for Tolerance is celebrated on November 16.
In 1993, at the initiative of UNESCO, the United Nations proclaimed 1995 as "The Year for Tolerance". UNESCO's 1995 Declaration of Principles on Tolerance was that tolerance is respect, acceptance, and appreciation of the rich diversity of our world's cultures, our forms of expression, and our ways of being human. The United Nations General Assembly decided to celebrate International Day for Tolerance every year. One year later in 1996, the UN General Assembly decided to celebrate November 16 as International Day for Tolerance and it would be celebrated every year.
The theme for International Day for Tolerance 2024 is 'Promoting Respect and Understanding Worldwide.'

Jharkhand Foundation Day

Jharkhand, called the "land of forests", celebrates its foundation day on November 15.
In 2000 a campaign led by the BJP for a separate state from Bihar state with the passage of the Bihar Reorganisation Act created Jharkhand as a new Indian state. Jharkhand is the 28th state of India.

World Usability Day (2nd Thursday in November)

The World Usability Day, which is celebrated on the second Thursday of November every year, asserts the importance of Usability values in different sectors of human endeavour. Being observed on the 14th of November this year (2024), the World Usability Day 2024 promotes the values of Virtual Healthcare, Electronic health records, and other health-related Technologies this year.
In November 2005, the User Experience Professional Association created World Usability Day. When the Association was founded in 1991, it had 50 members at first. By promoting User Experience Concepts, holding international conferences, publishing a journal called "Journal of Usability Studies (JUS)," publishing User Experience Magazine, and having 59 local chapters in 30 countries, the Association expanded to serve a global community of over 2400 professionals.
The theme for World Usability Day 2024 is 'Designing for a Better World.'

Children's Day

In India, Children's Day is observed on November 14 to honour Nehru's commitment to children's well-being. The day serves as a reminder of the need to ensure a safe, healthy childhood, focusing on education, nutrition, and a protective environment. It emphasises the importance of nurturing children, who are the future leaders of the world.
The day also marks the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the nation's first Prime Minister, who was fondly called "Chacha Nehru" for his deep affection for children.

World Diabetes Day

Every year on November 14, the World Diabetes Day (WDD) is observed to increase the awareness of diabetes, a chronic condition that affects millions of people around the world. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) organise the event, which focuses on diabetes prevention, health risks, and managing and living well with the disease.
The IDF and WHO established World Diabetes Day in 1991 in response to growing global concerns about diabetes as a major health concern. By adopting Resolution 61/225 in 2006, the UN formally recognised WDD and identified diabetes as a global health concern. The date, November 14, was selected because it is the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin with Charles Best in 1921. This finding transformed diabetes from a deadly illness to one that can now be controlled.
The theme for World Diabetes Day 2024 'Breaking Barriers, Bridging Gaps,' highlights the commitment to reducing the risk of diabetes and making sure that everyone with the disease has access to equitable, thorough, reasonably priced, and high-quality care.

World Kindness Day

World Kindness Day, observed on November 13 each year, is a global observance dedicated to promoting and celebrating acts of kindness. This day serves as a reminder of the positive impact that kindness can have on individuals, communities, and the world at large. It encourages people to perform intentional acts of kindness and foster a culture of compassion and generosity.
World Kindness Day was introduced by the World Kindness Movement, a global coalition of kindness organisations, in 1998. It was established to encourage individuals and communities to prioritise kindness and goodwill as fundamental values.
