Maki Kaji, the creator of the popular numbers puzzle Sudoku whose life's work was spreading the joy of puzzles, has died. He was 69.
Known as the "Godfather of Sudoku," Kaji created the puzzle to be easy for children and others who did not want to think too hard. Its name is made up of the Japanese characters for "number" and "single," and players place the numbers 1 through 9 in rows, columns, and blocks without repeating them.
In 2004, Sudoku became a global hit, after a fan from New Zealand pitched it and got it published in the British newspaper The Times.
Maki traveled to more than 30 countries spreading his enjoyment of puzzles. Sudoku championships have drawn some 200 million people in 100 countries over the years.

Former India Defender Chinmoy Chatterjee Passes Away
Former India defender Chinmoy Chatterjee, who played for the three Maidan heavyweights in his prime in the 1970-80s, died. He was 68.
He was a member of the Arun Ghosh-coached Indian team at the 1978 Bangkok Asian Games where they finished fourth in the quarter-final league.
A dependable right-back, Chatterjee switched from Mohun Bagan to arch-rivals East Bengal where he played from 1976-79 and 1982-86, during which they won the Calcutta Football League (CLF) thrice.
Chatterjee also represented Bengal in the Santosh Trophy four times, with the team becoming champions in three of them.

German Football Legend Gerd Müller Passes Away
Former West Germany forward and the Bayern Munich football legend, Gerd Muller has passed away. At the international level, he represented West Germany, scoring 68 goals in 62 appearances, and at the club level, he played for Bayern Munich, with which he scored a record 365 goals in 427 Bundesliga games. He was nicknamed "Bomber der Nation" ("the nation's Bomber") or simply "Der Bomber", for his scoring prowess.

RBI Appoints Neeraj Chopra for Banking Fraud Awareness Campaign
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has started a public awareness campaign to warn people against digital banking frauds. For the new campaign, RBI has roped in Olympic Gold medalist Neeraj Chopra. The central bank has asked people to be a little cautious as doing so can protect them from a lot of troubles. A little caution takes care of a lot of trouble.
The campaign sees Chopra urging users to not divulge details like OTP, CVV number and ATM PIN in front of anyone. The users should keep changing their online banking passwords and PIN numbers frequently and immediately block ATM card, credit card, debit card and/or prepaid card if one loses it. Block your card if stolen, lost or compromised.
