Indonesia plans to clear forests about the size of Belgium to produce sugarcane-derived bioethanol, rice and other food crops, potentially displacing Indigenous groups who rely on the land to survive.

India Ranks 3rd Largest Generator of Wind, Solar Power
India became the world's third-largest producer of electricity from wind and solar energy in 2024, overtaking Germany, to according to a new report published in April.
The sixth edition of global energy think tank Ember's Global Electricity Review said wind and solar together generated 15 per cent of global electricity last year. India's share stood at 10 per cent.

Rajasthan Tops Solar Installations in Indian Railways Stations and Service Buildings
Indian Railways has significantly expanded its solar energy infrastructure in alignment with the government's commitment to renewable energy and sustainability. As of February 2025, the national transporter has installed 209 MW of solar power capacity across 2,249 railway stations and service buildings. This marks a 2.3 times increase in solar plant installations in the last five years (1,489 new units) compared to the previous five years (628 units). Rajasthan leads the solar expansion with 275 installations, followed by Maharashtra (270) and West Bengal (237). The initiative is driven by Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and the Round The Clock (RTC) hybrid power model, integrating solar and wind energy.

Punjab to Develop Nangal as a Tourist Hub & Jhajjar Bachauli as the First Leopard Safari
The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, announced major initiatives to boost tourism and wildlife conservation in the state. Nangal will be developed into a major tourist hub, with an initial budget of Rs. 10 crore, while Jhajjar Bachauli Wildlife Sanctuary in Sri Anandpur Sahib will be transformed into Punjab's first leopard safari destination. These initiatives are part of the 'Badalda Punjab' Budget 2025-26, presented by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema. The projects aim to enhance tourism, preserve biodiversity, create employment, and uplift cultural heritage in Punjab.

Myanmar-Thailand Earthquake
The devastating earthquake which struck Myanmar and Thailand on Friday has claimed more than a thousand lives so far. Myanmar's Junta said on Saturday that at least 1,002 people had been killed and 2,376 others injured. The death toll and injuries are expected to rise. In Thailand, at least eight people died in the capital, where a high-rise building under construction collapsed.
The devastation caused by the Myanmar-Thailand earthquake, shown in dozens of shocking videos and photos circulating on social media, has caused concerns in India too. India has recorded 159 earthquakes of varying magnitudes from November 2024 to February 2025, with the latest being a magnitude 4.0 in Delhi on February 17, as per a PIB press release. Many people have observed that earthquakes have been occurring more frequently in recent years.
