Lucknow University VC Alok Kumar Rai Appointed Director of IIM Calcutta

  • Lucknow University Vice-Chancellor Professor Alok Kumar Rai was appointed as the new director of the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM-C), one of India's premier management institutions.
  • His appointment was confirmed by the Ministry of Education following the approval of President Droupadi Murmu, who acts as the Visitor of IIM-C.
  • The appointment has been made under Section 16 (2) of the Indian Institutes of Management Act, 2017, which was amended in 2023 to allow more flexible appointments for the leadership of India's IIMs.

First-ever Canadian High School Programme Debuts in an Indian Classroom

  • Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Education, inaugurated the India campus of the University of Southampton in Gurugram, Haryana, along with Nayab Singh Saini, Chief Minister of Haryana.
  • The inauguration marked a significant milestone in India's higher education landscape, commemorating five years of the National Education Policy 2020. The University of Southampton, a QS Top 100 global institution and founding member of the UK's Russell Group, became the first foreign university to operationalise a campus in India under the University Grants Commission's (Setting up and Operation of Campuses of Foreign Higher Educational Institutions in India) Regulations.

HPNLU Appoints Former CJI Sanjiv Khanna as Distinguished Professor

India Wins 2 Gold, 2 Silver Medals at International Chemistry Olympiad 2025

  • India's four-member student delegation to the 57th International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO) 2025 returned with two gold and two silver medals. The competition was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and featured participation from 354 students representing 90 countries, along with five observer nations. This marked India's 26th appearance at the IChO.
  • The Indian team was selected and trained by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), Mumbai, under the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR).

JNU Hosts First Indian Knowledge Meet

  • Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar inaugurated the first annual academic conference on Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) hosted by Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
  • The conference, themed 'The Resurgence of IKS: Finding what we have, learning what we learnt,' marked a significant initiative to promote Indic traditions across disciplines.
  • The conference, organised in collaboration with the Indian Knowledge Systems Heritage Alliance (IKSHA), the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), and the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR), received over 600 extended abstracts from more than 120 institutions.
  • Of these, 100 papers were selected for presentation across 17 focused sessions based on originality, rigour, and relevance.
