Renowned theatre personality and litterateur Urmil Kumar Thapliyal passed away. He was 78.
Thapliyal worked all through his life for the revival of nautanki and popularising theatre.
The veteran was associated with Darpan, the 50-year-old popular theatre group of the state capital. He also had a long innings with the All India Radio.

Malayalam Actor K.T.S. Padannayil Passes Away
Malayalam actor K.T.S. Padannayil, popular for his comedy roles in various films, passed away. He was 88.
Padannayil entered Mollywood through filmmaker Rajasenan's Aniyan Bava Chetan Bava and acted in movies such as Sreekrishnapurathe Nakshathrathilakkam, Adyathe Kanmani, Swapnalokathe Balabhaskar, Kunjiramayanam, Amar Akbar Anthony, and Rakshadhikari Baiju to name a few. His toothless smile became his trademark as he slipped with ease into several comic roles.

Crisil Chief Ashu Suyash to Quit after 6 Years at Helm
Ashu Suyash, managing director and chief executive of Crisil Ltd, will quit by the end of September after being at helm for six years in the country's largest rating agency.
She will start a new venture.
Amish Mehta will assume the role of Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective October 1. He has served as Crisil's Chief Operating Officer since 2017 and will work closely with Suyash to ensure a seamless transition.

IOA Names Security Attache B K Sinha as Press Attache of India's Olympic Contingent
Retired IPS officer B K Sinha will perform the dual role of Security as well as Press Attache of India's Olympic contingent at the Tokyo Games, which begins on July 23, the IOA announced.
Sinha is a former Haryana DGP and also a recipient of the President's Police Medal.
"Mr B K Sinha (Retd DG Police, IPS) who is going with Indian contingent for Tokyo Olympics as Security Attache, will now, along with handling the responsibilities of Security Attache, will also be handling the responsibilities of Press Attache," Indian Olympic Association President Narinder Batra and Secretary General Rajeev Mehta said.

Former Pakistan President Mamnoon Hussain Passes Away in Karachi
Former president of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain passed away after a prolonged illness, according to his family and party leaders. He was 80.
Hussain, who was born in Agra in 1940 and migrated with his parents to Pakistan in 1947, served as the 12th President of Pakistan between September 2013 and September 2018.
The senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader was diagnosed with cancer in February last year and was under treatment at a private hospital in Karachi for some days where he breathed his last.
186th Death Anniversary of U Tirot Sing Syiem Observed
In Meghalaya, the 186th Death Anniversary of the Khasi freedom fighter U Tirot Sing Syiem was observed on July 17, 2021.
The programme was organised by the Department of Art and Culture in collaboration with Meghalaya Model United Nations.
FR Kharkongor, Commissioner and Secretary, Arts and Culture department paid homage to U Tirot Sing Syiem, the great freedom fighter of Meghalaya who fought relentlessly to prevent Khasi Hills from falling into the hands of the British.
Highlighting contributions of U Tirot Sing in the country's freedom movement, Kharkongor said, the history of the great freedom fighter should be revisited to get a 360 degree perspective of what he represented.
On the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, people must remember freedom fighters and take inspiration from their sacrifices.
In a tweet, Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma paid tribute to the Khasi freedom fighter.
