Former Gujarat CM Keshubhai Patel Passes Away

  • Former Gujarat Chief Minister and senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party Keshubhai Patel passed away at the age of 92.
  • Keshubhai was the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 1995 and from 1998 to 2001. Later, he was succeeded by the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the then Gujarat Chief Minister.
  • The BJP leader had been nominated as a member of Gujarat Legislative Assembly six times. He had been a member of the BJP since the 1980s.
  • Keshubhai left the BJP in 2012 and formed the Gujarat Parivartan Party. In 2012, he was elected from Visavadar assembly seat but had to resign in 2014 due to ill health.

India Proposes IFS Officer Suresh Kumar as Charge d' Affaires to Pakistan

  • India has proposed the name of IFS officer Suresh Kumar as the new Charge d' affaires to Pakistan. Suresh is a 2006 batch IFS and has worked as deputy secretary at the Pakistan desk in the Ministry of External Affairs.
  • Earlier, India had proposed name of Jayant Khobragade and it is learnt that Pakistan had denied visa at that time.
  • In June, India and Pakistan downsized by fifty per cent staff at missions both in New Delhi and Islamabad after some members of the Pakistan High Commission were caught spying.
  • India's top diplomat Acting Charge d' affaires in Pakistan Gaurav Ahluwalia had also complained about harassment.

Daniel Menaker, Award-winning Author and editor, passes away

  • Daniel Menaker, an award-winning author of fiction and non-fiction and a longtime editor at The New Yorker and Random House who worked with Alice Munro, Salman Rushdie, Colum McCann and many others, passed away at the age of 79.
  • Daniel Menaker was the author of several books, including the memoir "My Mistake" and the comic psychological novel "The Treatment," adapted into a 2007 movie starring Chris Eigeman and Ian Holm.
  • He was also known for the O Henry Award-winning title story of his collection "The Old Left," which draws on his early childhood in Greenwich Village and his "red diaper" upbringing: His father allegedly spied on Trotsky in Mexico, where the exiled Russian revolutionary was eventually assassinated, on behalf of the Communist Party; an uncle was named for Friedrich Engels.

Facebook India's Ankhi Das Steps Down

  • Facebook India's controversial public policy head Ankhi Das left the company with immediate effect to pursue her interest in public service.
  • Ankhi was one of our earliest employees in India and played an instrumental role in the growth of the company and its services over the last nine years.
  • The resignation comes after a Wall Street Journal report in August said that the top leadership at Facebook's India office refused to apply the company's own rules to politicians from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), despite clear violations of Facebook's policies against incitement to violence, hate speech and misinformation.

Aditya Puri Retires as HDFC Bank MD-CEO

  • Aditya Puri, who was HDFC Bank Managing Director and CEO for 26 years, retired from India's largest private bank. Sashidhar Jagdishan took over the charge.
  • Puri retired in accordance with the RBI regulations which say a private bank CEO's tenure should not exceed 70 years.
  • Jagdishan has been part of the bank since 1996, and played a critical role in supporting the growth trajectory of the bank. With an overall experience of over 30 years, Jagdishan has extensive knowledge and experience in the fields of banking, finance and economics.

Payal Ghosh Joins Ramdas Athawale's Party

  • Actor Payal Ghosh, who accused filmmaker Anurag Kashyap of raping her, joined the Republican Party of India (Athawale).
  • She, along with some others, joined the party in the presence of its chief and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale.
  • Ghosh was appointed vice president of the women's wing of the party.
  • Ghosh joined RPI (A) to do something for the country and thanked Athawale for supporting her in her fight against Kashyap.

Rajan Sushant Floats New Political Outfit

  • Former Lok Sabha member Rajan Sushant launched a new political outfit named 'Hamari Party Himachal Party'.
  • Sushant said that the party will emerge as an alternative to the Congress and BJP.
  • The party will contest elections in all four parliamentary seats and 68 Vidhan Sabha seats.
