Army to Officially Honour Operation Pawan Martyrs after 38 Years
For the first time in 38 years, the Indian Army will officially commemorate the soldiers who laid down their lives during Operation Pawan, one of India's most challenging external military missions. Conducted in Sri Lanka from 1987 to 1990, the operation marked a major chapter in India's strategic engagement abroad and resulted in heavy casualties. The long-awaited tribute brings national recognition to thousands of personnel who served under extreme conditions during the Tamil–Sinhala conflict.
Operation Pawan began in 1987 after India deployed the Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) to Sri Lanka under the Indo–Sri Lanka Accord. The objective was to stabilise the conflict-hit northern and eastern provinces and disarm militant groups, including the LTTE.

India and Nepal Start 19th 'Suryakiran' Military Exercise
India and Nepal are conducting the 19th edition of the annual bilateral military Exercise Suryakiran from November 25 to December 8 in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.
According to the Indian Army, the exercise with the Nepal Army aims to strengthen operational synergy in conducting jungle warfare and counter-terrorism operations in mountainous terrain.
It also focuses on integration of niche technology to enhance interoperability while sharing best practices, reflecting the shared commitment of India and Nepal towards global peace and security, while further deepening defence cooperation, camaraderie and mutual trust between both armies.
The exercise is an annual training event conducted alternatively in the two countries.
BEL & Safran Sign JV to Manufacture HAMMER Precision Weapon in India
Bharat Electronics Limited and Safran Electronics and Defence of France signed a Joint Venture Cooperation Agreement in New Delhi, for the production of Highly Agile Modular Munition Extended Range (HAMMER) Smart Precision Guided Air-to-Ground Weapon.
Ministry of Defence said that the agreement will localise the manufacturing, supply and maintenance of HAMMER to meet the operational needs of the Air Force and Navy.
The transfer of production will happen in a phased manner with Bharat Electronics Limited leading final assembly, testing and quality assurance. HAMMER is a combat-proven, precision-guided weapon system known for its high accuracy and modular design, making it adaptable for multiple platforms, including the Rafale and Light Combat Aircraft Tejas.

Indian Navy Commission First Indigenous Anti-Submarine Shallow Water Warship
The Indian Navy commissioned its first indigenous anti-submarine warfare shallow watercraft (ASW-SWC) Mahe at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai. The vessel is poised to script another milestone in its indigenous shipbuilding journey.
Mahe is the first of the eight ASW-SWC built by Cochin Shipyard Ltd (CSL), the contract for the same was awarded by the Ministry of Defence to CSL in April 2019. With the blend of firepower, stealth and mobility, the 78-metre-long warship is designed to hunt submarines, conduct coastal patrols and secure India's vital maritime approaches.
The commissioning ceremony was hosted by Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, flag officer commanding-in-chief of the Western Naval Command and was presided over by General Upendra Dwivedi, chief of the army staff.

BSL Inks Pact with DRDO for Manufacturing Military Grade Steel
The management of Bokaro Steel Limited (BSL) inked a licensing agreement for transfer of technology (LAToT) with a research laboratory of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for manufacturing steel sheets to be used in the Indian Navy, the Army and other government agencies.
BSL management inked the LAToT with Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL). The agreement grants BSL a non-exclusive license to utilise the technology for manufacture of DMR 249A steel sheets. Priya Ranjan, executive director (works), said that the move will take the PSU a step further in fulfilling the need of India's defence sector.
Defence Secretary Leads NCC's 78th Raising Day Commemoration
The National Cadet Corps (NCC) celebrated its 78th Raising Day on November 23, 2025, with commemorative events planned across the country. As a prelude to the celebrations, a solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at the National War Memorial, New Delhi where Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh and Director General NCC Lt Gen Virendra Vats laid a wreath & paid homage to the fallen heroes on behalf of the entire organisation.
From its establishment in 1948 with just 20,000 cadets, the NCC has grown into the world's largest uniformed youth organisation with 20 lakh cadets, including an increase of 6 lakh cadets between 2014 and 2025. Today, its footprint extends to 713 out of India's 780 districts, making it one of the most widely represented youth institutions in the country.

The Indo-Tibetan Border Police's (ITBP) 27th battalion clinched the best anti-naxal battalion honour for delivering outstanding operational results and leading impactful community initiatives in Chhattisgarh.
ITBP Director General Praveen Kumar honoured the prestigious award to the battalion's Commandant Vivek Kumar Pandey and B. P. Badaya during the force's Raising Day Director General's Parade held in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir.
