PM Narendra Modi Inaugurates New Tourism Attractions

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated four new tourist attractions, Arogya Van, Ekta Mall, Children's Nutrition Park and Sardar Patel Zoological Park/ Jungle Safari, near the Statue of Unity at Kevadiya in Narmada district.
  • The Prime Minister, who was scheduled to launch 17 new projects, including a seaplane service, first inaugurated an Arogya Van (`health forest'), spread over 17 acres with a wide range of medicinal plants.
  • The PM next inaugurated a Children's Nutrition Park, dubbed as the world's first such technology-driven theme park developed over 35,000 square meters. Its primary objective is to make children understand the importance of nutritious food.
  • Then he inaugurated Jungle Safari, a state-of-the-art Zoological Park spread across 375 acres and seven levels, housing over 1,100 indigenous and exotic birds and animals of more than 100 species, including tigers, lions, giraffes, zebras and leopards.

SpiceJet to Launch 8 New flights between India and Bangladesh

  • No-frills carrier SpiceJet announced the launch of eight new flights between India and Bangladesh under the air bubble agreement between the two countries, starting November 5.
  • The Gurugram-headquartered airline will operate four times a week non-stop flight services between Kolkata and Chittagong, besides connecting Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai with Dhaka.
  • Chittgaong, the port city, will be the 11th international destination of SpiceJet.
  • On October 17, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh Puri had announced that the two South Asian nations had sealed an air bubble pact under which the carriers of India and Bangladesh would operate 28 flights (per week) each between the two countries.

Indian Tourism Statistics

  • The Ministry of Tourism released the Indian Tourist Statistics. According to the report, Uttar Pradesh attracted the highest number of domestic tourists in the country.
  • In 2019, the foreign tourist arrival in India increased by 2.2 %. The overall foreign visitors to India in 2019 was 28.9 million. This included non-resident Indians as well. The top five source countries of tourists were Bangladesh, United States, United Kingdom, Sri Lanka and Canada.
  • The total foreign exchange value due to tourism in 2019 was 29 billion USD.
  • The peak tourism seasons of India are the first and fourth quarters of a calendar.
  • Gender wise distribution: of the foreign tourists arriving India, 58.6% males and 41.4 percent were females.
  • According to the the United Nations World Tourism Organisation, International tourist arrivals increased by 4% in 2019. In India this grew by 6.8 % in the same period.

TAAI Appoints Interim Chairman for UP and UK Chapter

  • Sunil B. Satyawakta from Luncknow was appointed as interin Chairman by Travel Agents Association of Indiafor Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand Chapter.He joins Gayatri Khanna (Secretary) and Swati Dimri (Treasurer) as Office Bearers of the Chapter. This development took place via a virtual meeting in the presence of the TAAI National President and the National MC. Satyawakta will retain this position until next association elections that will take place in November 2020.

Peru Opens Machu Picchu for Single Tourist

  • Peru opened the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu for a single Japanese tourist who had waited almost seven months to visit the world heritage site.
  • Jesse Takayama was due to visit Machu Picchu in March but it closed because of coronavirus.
  • Culture Minister Alejandro Neyra said that Mr. Takayama was granted access after submitting a special request.
  • The ancient Inca citadel - Peru's top tourist attraction - is expected to reopen at reduced capacity next month.
  • Mr. Takayama planned to spend only a few days in Peru, but became stranded in the town of Aguas Calientes, near Machu Picchu, in mid-March because of coronavirus travel regulations.
