Palace of Aigai: Greece Reopens Huge Alexander the Great Monument

  • The site of one of the most important monuments in classical antiquity, the palace where Alexander the Great was crowned king, was reopened after a 16-year restoration.
  • The Palace of Aigai, near Greece's northern port city of Thessaloniki, was built more than 2,300 years ago.
  • It was later destroyed by the Romans and unearthed through excavations beginning in the 19th Century.
  • Its renovation cost more than €20m (£17m; $22m), with help from the EU.
  • Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who attended a ceremony for the site's reopening, described it as a "monument of global importance".

NEHHDC Establishes Ashtlaxmi Haat for Northeast Arts and Crafts

  • North Eastern Handicrafts and Handlooms Development Corporation (NEHHDC), as the name suggests is an organisation that attempts to develop and promote the indigenous crafts of the region by connecting craftsmen to prospective markets and consumers and generating economic, cultural and social opportunities for creators while adding cultural value for consumers.
  • The corporation offers a range of products from all the eight north-eastern states namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. The organisation procures handicrafts and handlooms from artisans and weavers across the region and retails the same. Moreover, it promotes the products at various National and International Markets through exhibitions and trade fairs. The corporation also conducts training programmes and seminars for skill and knowledge upgradation of the artisans and weavers.
  • The North Eastern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation Limited (NEHHDC) is establishing Ashtlaxmi Haat & Experience Centre at Guwahati with a project cost of Rs. 7.6 crore. The Haat will have 24 permanent stalls, which will provide a market access to artisans of all Northeast states & will have an artisan residency to provide accommodation to artisans from out station.

Karnataka Sculptor Yogiraj Arun's Ram Lalla to be Installed in Ayodhya

  • With the country counting down to the grand 'Pran-Pratishtha' ceremony of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, the idol carved by sculptor Yogiraj Arun from Karnataka was finalised for the consecration at the Ram Temple on January 22.
  • Designs by three sculptors were under consideration by the Trust. Among the figures being considered for the grand installation inside the sanctum sanctorum of the Ram Temple was a 51-inch-tall idol, depicting a five-year-old 'Ram Lalla'.

Gwalior Achieves Guinness Record with 'Largest Tabla Ensemble'

  • Around 1,300 tabla players who performed at the 99th International Tansen Samaroh in Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh entered the Guinness World Records for achieving the 'largest tabla ensemble'.
  • The Guinness World Records certificate was handed over to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who said that his government would henceforth observe December 25 as 'Tabla Day' to commemorate the feat and honour all musicians.
  • The largest tabla ensemble was achieved by Department of Culture, Government of Madhya Pradesh (India).
  • The feat came just a month after Gwalior was designated as the Creative City of Music in the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) in November 2023. The erstwhile royal family Scindia family is widely credited for promoting the arts, particularly music, over the years.
