New Delhi Book Fair 2024

  • The New Delhi Book Fair, organised by the National Book Trust in collaboration with the India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO), is being held at Pragati Maidan from February 10 to 18, 2024. This year's (2024) theme, 'Multilingual India: A Living Tradition', promises a celebration of linguistic diversity and cultural exchange.
  • Saudi Arabia took centre stage as the Guest of Honour, showcasing its rich literary heritage. With 25 delegates from the Kingdom participating, the fair becomes a platform for strengthening bilateral ties between India and Saudi Arabia.

President Droupadi Murmu Inaugurates Four-day Cultural Extravaganza 'Vividhta Ka Amrit Mahotsav'

  • President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the four-day cultural extravaganza 'Vividhta ka Amrit Mahotsav: A cultural odyssey' unveiling the richness of Northeast India at Amrit Udyan, Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. On the occasion, the President said that the diverse culture of our country is our strength and soft power.
  • The Mahotsav is being held as a part of Udyan Utsav, 2024 organised by the Ministry of DoNER in partnership with the Culture Ministry. The festival aims to foster exchanges in traditional handicrafts, handlooms, and agro products, becoming a catalyst for the region's growth and development.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Gen Naravane Participate at WordsCount Festival

  • 'WordsCount – The Festival of Words' was held on February 9 to 10, 2024 at the prestigious Mayo College in Ajmer, Rajasthan.
  • The two-day festival was inaugurated by former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan with a session titled 'Being Mama -- A Journey into the Heart'.
  • Renowned speakers such as Prasoon Joshi, Sandip Ghose (CEO MP Birla Cement), Pawan Khera, and Vikas Bhale (Principal Secretary, Govt of Rajasthan) shared their insights and engage in thought-provoking discussions.
  • The closing address of the festival was delivered by the 28th Chief of Army Staff General Manoj M. Naravane.

Union Culture Minister Lays Foundation Stone for India's Digital National Museum of Epigraphy

  • Union Culture Minister G. Kishan Reddy laid the foundation stone for the country's digital National Museum of Epigraphy at the Salar Jung Museum, Hyderabad. Spearheaded by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), this museum aims to house approximately one lakh ancient writings spanning various times and languages, preserving them for future generations.
  • This initiative builds upon the announcement made last year (2023) by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman regarding the establishment of the Bharat Shared Repository of Inscriptions (BharatSHRI). The goal of this project is to digitise one lakh ancient inscriptions, ensuring their accessibility to a wider audience and facilitating scholarly research.

Bapu Tower: A Monumental Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in Patna, Bihar

  • In the heart of Patna, Bihar, a new landmark emerged as a monumental tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, fondly known as the Father of the Nation. The Bapu Tower, located in Gardanibagh, stands as a testament to the enduring legacy and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. This tower, the first of its kind in the country dedicated to Gandhi, has been completed, marking a significant milestone in the architectural and cultural landscape of Bihar.
  • The construction of the Bapu Tower, which began in October 2018, has seen several extensions from its initial completion target. Finally completed and inaugurated in February 2024.
  • Bapu Tower is a vital resource for children, students, researchers, and anyone interested in Gandhi's principles. With its extensive exhibition of historical events, Gandhi's thoughts, and his profound connection with Bihar, the tower offers an enlightening experience that goes beyond conventional memorials.

Ellora Ajanta Festival

  • The Ellora – Ajanta International Festival, held in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar concluded marking the end of a three-day musical extravaganza that delighted audiences with a rich cultural treat. After a seven-year hiatus, the event returned in 2023. Now, the district plans to host it annually in early February. District Guardian Minister Sandipan Bhumre, along with Ministers Atul Save and Abdul Sattar, and MLA Sanjay Shirsath, inaugurated the festival amidst grandeur, symbolised by the traditional lamp lighting ceremony.

Marwar Horse Festival

  • The ninth edition of Marwar Horse Festival was inaugurated by the erstwhile ruler of Marwar Gaj Singh. The two-day event, aimed at promoting and conserving the indigenous breed, the Marwari horse, was organised jointly with the All India Marwari Horse Society and Marwari Horse Stud Book Registration Society of India.
  • The horses registered in the stud from across the entire country participated in this event. Diverse activities and competitions under different categories took place in the event.
  • It may be noted that Marwari horses, also known as Malani breed, are famous for their elegance, endurance, agility and loyalty. These traits of this horse have resulted in huge fascination and demand for this breed all across the globe.
