India Takes Flight with E-Hansa: Indigenous Electric Aircraft Initiative Launched

  • India has begun the development of its next-generation electric trainer aircraft, E-Hansa, a two-seater aircraft that represents a major milestone in green aviation and indigenous aerospace technology.
  • Spearheaded by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research – National Aerospace Laboratories (CSIR-NAL), this aircraft will cost nearly half of its imported counterparts and is aligned with India's efforts to reduce carbon emissions and promote self-reliance in aviation.
  • The announcement was made by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, during a high-level review meeting on May 27, 2025.

DRDO Launches Advanced Quantum Technology Research Centre in Delhi

  • On May 27, 2025, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) inaugurated the Quantum Technology Research Centre (QTRC) at Metcalfe House, Delhi, aiming to accelerate India's indigenous research in quantum technologies for strategic and defence applications. 
  • Inaugurated by Dr. Samir V Kamat, Chairman of DRDO, the centre is equipped with cutting-edge infrastructure for developing quantum communication, sensing, and timekeeping technologies, placing India at the forefront of quantum innovation.
  • As global competition intensifies in quantum computing and cryptography, India aims to build sovereign capabilities to remain technologically secure and independent.

DRDO chief Samir V Kamat gets second one-year extension

  • The Central government on 26th May extended the tenure of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) chief Samir V Kamat by one more year, till May 2026.
  • This is his second extension in the post.
  • A distinguished scientist, Kamat was appointed as secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development (DDR&D) and the DRDO chairman on August 25, 2022.
  • He was given one-year extension on May 27 last year, which was to end this month.

  • Deka, who has held the position since 2022, took over as the new chief in 2022. He is a 1988 batch officer from the Himachal Pradesh cadre.
