IIIT Bangalore Launches a Multi-cloud Certification for Non-techies

  • The International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIIT-B) expanded its academic portfolio to launch an Executive Post-Graduate Certificate programme in Cloud and DevOps, powered by upGrad, one of Asia's largest integrated learning, skilling and workforce development majors. This innovative online programme marks a significant milestone, positioning itself as the first of its kind to offer in-depth coverage of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services, including concepts tested in AWS and Azure exams.
  • The programme provides a thorough introduction to various cloud platforms, placing a significant focus on DevOps principles and advanced concepts like DevSecOps and SynOps. During each module, learners will be able to deploy web applications and undergo extensive hands-on training, preparing them for roles that require deploying and managing web applications in cloud environments.
  • The launch of this programme is a direct response to the surging demand for DevOps and Cloud computing that we've been observing.

NCERT Books Tweaks: References to Babri Masjid, Gujarat Riots, Hindutva Dropped

  • Dropping references to the demolition of Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, the killing of Muslims in Gujarat riots and Hindutva, and tweaking the reference to Manipur's merger with India are amongst the latest set of revisions made public by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in its textbooks.
  • While NCERT did not comment on the topics being dropped, officials said the tweaks are part of the routine update and are not linked to the development of new books as per the New Curriculum Framework (NCF).
  • The changes have been made in the Political Science textbooks of classes 11 and 12, among others.

King's College of UK Establishes Campus in Gurugram with International Faculty

  • Global Educational Venture (GEV) and Swami Vivekanand Institute of Engineering and Technology (SVIET) officially signed an agreement to establish a branch of the King's College, UK in Gurugram, Haryana.
  • King's College, originally based in the UK, was established over 150 years ago and has been known for its legacy.
  • The school will follow the Cambridge/IB curriculum for various classes, leading to IGCSE and A levels/ IB Diploma.
  • The institute also clarified that most of the faculty will be from the UK/Europe or other countries, including the head of the school and coordinators.

CISCE Announces Revised Class 12 Syllabus for 2024-25 Academic Year

  • The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) announced the revision of the Indian School Certificate (ISC) or Class 12th syllabus for the 2025 Board Exams. The revised syllabus applies to 12 subjects, including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Commerce, Accounts, History, Geography, Political Science, Sociology, Psychology, and Legal Studies. However, the syllabus and scope of the remaining subjects remain unchanged. Additionally, vocational subjects such as Assistant Beauty Therapist, Assistant Hair Stylist, Basic Data Entry Operator, Dietetic Aide, Cashier, Early Years Physical Activity Facilitator, and Auto Service Technician were included. Furthermore, robotics and AI were introduced into the curriculum.

West Bengal WBCHSE Suggests Warm-up Course on AI for Class 10 Students

  • The West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education proposed that secondary schools introduce a warm-up course for Class 10 students interested in pursuing the new Applied Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security subjects in the higher secondary curriculum.
  • According to WBCHSE president Chiranjib Bhattacharya, this short-term course will serve as a basic warm-up for students considering subjects like Modern Computer Applications, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Applied Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Cyber Security in higher secondary classes.
  • Applied Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security are the two new subjects introduced from the academic year 2024-25. The syllabus for the existing subjects, Modern Computer Application and Computer Science, has been updated to ensure relevance and contemporaneity.

Droupadi Murmu Launches India's First Gene Therapy for Cancer

  • The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, launched India's first home-grown gene therapy for cancer at IIT Bombay. This groundbreaking treatment, called 'CAR-T cell therapy', is a major breakthrough in the battle against cancer.
  • President Murmu hailed the therapy as a new hope for humanity as it is both accessible and affordable. She expressed confidence that the innovative treatment will give new life to countless patients suffering from cancer.
  • The President emphasized that CAR-T cell therapy is considered one of the most phenomenal advances in medical science. While it has been available in developed nations for some time, the therapy was extremely costly and beyond the reach of most patients worldwide. However, the newly launched therapy is the world's most affordable CAR-T cell therapy.
  • She praised the therapy's development as a collaborative effort between IIT Bombay, Tata Memorial Hospital, and industry partner ImmunoACT.

CBSE Class 11, 12 Exam Format Changes, Focus on Concept Application Questions

  • Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) introduced significant changes in the examination format for Classes 11 and 12, aiming to enhance students' competency in applying concepts to real-life scenarios.
  • CBSE officials announced that starting from the 2024-25 session, the examination pattern for Classes 11 and 12 will feature a higher percentage of competency-based questions.
  • These questions will assess students' ability to apply theoretical knowledge to practical situations, aligning with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

Aaryan Shukla of Class 8 Sets Guiness World Record for Fastest Mental Addition

  • Aaryan Shukla, a Class 8 student from Delhi Public School Nashik, etched his name in the annals of history by setting a Guinness World Record for the 'fastest time to mentally add 50 five-digit numbers.'
  • Aaryan's extraordinary achievement, accomplished in a mere 25.19 seconds, took place on the prestigious Italian TV show, 'Lo Show Dei Record,' in Milan, Italy.
  • Aaryan Shukla, affectionately known as the 'Human Calculator,' has been immersed in the world of mental mathematics since the tender age of six. His journey to the Guinness World Record is punctuated by a series of outstanding accomplishments, including clinching the title of 'World Champion' at the 2022 Mental Calculation World Cup held in Paderborn, Germany.
  • Despite being just 12 years old at the time, Aaryan's exceptional precision and talent propelled him to victory, surpassing competitors from across the globe.

IIM Lucknow Appoints Prof. Archana Shukla as Director-in-Charge

  • The Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (IIML) re-appointed Prof. Archana Shukla as Director-in-charge of IIM Lucknow. She will continue as the Director-in-charge till a regular Director is appointed.
  • Prof. Shukla is the senior most Professor at IIM Lucknow and her appointment is as per Clause (9) of IIM Act 2017.
  • This decision was taken by Chairperson of the IIM Lucknow Board of Governors, N. Chandrasekaran.
  • Established in 1984, IIM Lucknow was the fourth IIM to be established in the country, after IIM Calcutta, IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore. IIML was the first IIM to start a two year full time MBA programme in Sustainable Management. It also has a full-time MBA programme in Agri Business Management.
