Kisan Diwas

Farmers' Day is an annual observance in various countries to celebrate the national contributions of farmers and agriculturers. In India also known as Kisan Diwas is observed on December 23 on the birthday of the 5th Prime Minister of India, Choudhary Charan Singh, also a farmer's leader, who introduced many policies to improve the lives of the Indian farmers. It is celebrated by organising various programs, debates, seminars, quiz competitions, discussions, workshops, exhibitions, essays writing competitions and functions.

National Mathematics Day

December 22 is celebrated as National Mathematics Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of one of the brilliant minds of the country, Srinivasa Ramanujan. The self-taught genius was born on December 22, 1887, in a small village of Erode in Madras Presidency, British India. The day marks the importance of mathematics in the development of our nation and honours the amazing works of Srinivas Ramanujan.
He was the second Indian to be honoured with the Fellow of the Royal Society in 1918. The first was Ardaseer Cursetjee, a marine engineer.
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had in 2012 announced December 22 as National Mathematics Day, while paying tribute to Ramanujan in Chennai.

International Human Solidarity Day

International Human Solidarity Day is observed annually on December 20, every year.
International Human Solidarity Day was introduced by the UN General Assembly. The purpose of solidarity is to build our movement and to embody our mutual care and concern for justice. Solidarity works best when there is respect and understanding of each other's needs and life circumstances.
On December 22, 2005, The General Assembly by revolution 60/209 recognized solidarity as one of the fundamental and universal values of the twenty-first century.
The concept of solidarity was promoted through the establishment of the World Solidarity Fund to eradicate poverty and the proclamation of International Human Solidarity Day.
The theme for International Human Solidarity Day 2021 was 'harnessing the potential of human mobility.'

Good Governance Week 2021

The central government is celebrating Good Governance week from December 20 to December 26, 2021. This was informed by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievance (DARPG). The nationwide campaign has been launched for redressal of public grievances and improvising service delivery, especially in rural areas.
The DARPG will convene various events to celebrate the week from December 20-26 in collaboration with the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Department of Pension & Pensioners' Welfare, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Panchayati Raj and Rural Development and Ministry of External Affairs.
The theme of Good Governance week is -"Prashasan Gaon Ki Aur" and it aims to take good governance to the rural areas. A film titled "Prashasan Gaon Ki Aur" will also be screened during the week.

Goa Liberation Day

Goa Liberation Day is observed on December 19 every year in India and it marks the day Indian armed forces freed Goa in 1961 following 450 years of Portuguese rule. The Portuguese colonised several parts of India in 1510 but by the end of the 19th-century Portuguese colonies in India were limited to Goa, Daman, Diu, Dadra, Nagar Haveli and Anjediva Island. The Goa liberation movement, which sought to end Portuguese colonial rule in Goa, started off with small scale revolts.
On August 15, 1947, when India gained its Independence, Goa was still under the Portuguese rule. The Portuguese refused to give up their hold over Goa and other Indian territories. Following a myriad of unsuccessful negotiations and diplomatic efforts with the Portuguese, the former Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, decided that military intervention was the only option. The 36-hour military operation, conducted from December 18, 1961, was code-named 'Operation Vijay' meaning 'Operation Victory,' and involved attacks by the Indian Navy, Indian Air Force and Indian Army.
Indian troops reclaimed the Goan territory on December 19 with little resistance and the deposed governor general Manuel António Vassalo e Silva signed the certificate of surrender thus bringing Portuguese rule in the region to an end. This made India completely free from foreign rule.

World Arabic Language Day

World Arabic Language Day is observed globally on December 18 every year. The Arabic language is one of the pillars of the cultural diversity of mankind. It is one of the most widely used languages in the world, spoken daily by more than 400 million people. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness of the history, culture and development of the language by preparing a program of special activities and events.
The theme of this year's World Arabic Language Day is "The Arabic Language and Civilizational Communication", and it is considered as a call to reaffirm the important role that the Arabic language plays in building bridges of connection between people on the rise of culture, science, literature and many other fields.
United Nations was decided to celebrate the Arabic language on December 18, being the day on which General Assembly resolution 3190 (XXVIII) of December 18, 1973, concerned the inclusion of the Arabic language among the official and working languages of the United Nations.

International Migrants Day

International Migrants Day is observed every year on December 18, to tackle the problem and challenges of global migration.
The United Nations General Assembly in the year 1999 created the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of their Families.
But on December 4, 2000, keeping an account of the large and increasing migrants across the globe, December 18 was decided as International Migrants' Day.
The theme for the year 2021 was 'Harnessing the Potential of Human Mobility'.

Minorities Rights Day in India

Every year, December 18 is observed as the Minorities Rights Day to uphold the right to freedom and equal opportunities for the ethnic minorities in India and create awareness about the respect and dignity of the minorities. India has faced many obstacles since the British Rule regarding basic human rights. However, these rights were safeguarded after the independence and people must be made aware of it. Thus, we celebrate Minorities Rights Day on December 18 every year.
The Minority Rights Day 2021 aims to uplift all the minority sections of society and back them to voice their opinion.
December 18 was declared as the Minorities Rights Day back in 1992 by the United Nations. The UN had adopted the statement on the individual's Rights belonging to religious or Linguistic National or Ethnic Minorities. In India, it is the responsibility of the National Commission for Minorities (NCM) to carry out the events on this day. The NCM was established by the Union Government under the National Commission for Minorities Act, in 1992. It was formed on May 17 1993.
It evaluates the progress of the development of Minorities under the Union and States.
