Biden set to Name Rahul Gupta as US' top Drug Policy Official
US President Joe Biden is reportedly set to name Rahul Gupta as the country's top drug policy official, adding another Indian American to a senior position in his administration.
Gupta, a primary-care doctor who served as top health official of West Virginia state, is slated to be named director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, a position that's called the "drug czar", a term coined by President Biden, who, as a senator, had also supported the creation of the office.
The office was created in 1982 to frame and coordinate national policy on combating substance-use disorders, including the response to an opioid crisis.
Yashpal Sharma, India's 1983 World Cup Winning Team Member, Passes Away
Former Indian cricketer Yashpal Sharma, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning squad, passed away due to cardiac arrest in 2021. A middle order batsman, Sharma represented India in 37 Test matches and 42 one-day internationals.
He was an important member of Kapil Dev's side that won the World Cup in England in 1983. Sharma was India's second highest scorer behind Kapil Dev in the tournament, piling up 240 runs in 8 innings with two half centuries to his kitty.

Kishan has been with the food and hyperlocal delivery platform for over six years and joined the company as a general manager of new initiatives.
Last year, Swiggy's cofounder and chief technology officer Rahul Jaimini exited to join Pesto Tech, a career accelerator startup. Swiggy currently has two cofounders -- Majety and Nandan Reddy.

Olympic Gold-winning Hockey Legend Keshav Datt Dies
Two-time Olympics gold medallist Keshav Chandra Datt, the last surviving member of the Indian hockey team in the historic 1948 London Games, passed away. He was 95.
A product of the famous Government College, Lahore — which also produced Olympians like Syed Jaffar, Commander Nandy Singh and Munir Dar — Datt, born in Lahore on December 29, 1925, participated in the 1948 London and 1952 Helsinki Games respectively.
Some claim that he could not take part in his third Olympics, in Melbourne in 1956, due to "professional commitments with Brooke Bond".
In his autobiography Goal, Dhyan Chand rated Datt as one of the finest half-backs of that time.

Virbhadra Singh Passes Away
Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Congress leader Virbhadra Singh passed away after battling a prolonged illness. The Congress leader was 87.
Virbhadra Singh was a nine-time MLA and five-time MP. He served as Himachal Pradesh's Chief Minister for six times.
The veteran Congress leader also served as union deputy minister, Tourism and Civil Aviation, minister of state for industries, union minister of steel and Union Minister of micro, small & medium enterprises (MSME).

Nitin Gadkari Becomes Brand Ambassador of Khadi Prakritk Paint
The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways & MSME, Nitin Gadkari, virtually inaugurated India's first and only paint made from cow dung, under the brand name 'Khadi Prakritk Paint'. In addition to this, the minister also declared himself as the "Brand Ambassador" of paint, to promote it across the country and encourage young entrepreneurs to take up the manufacturing of cow dung paint.
The Khadi Prakritk Paint automated manufacturing plant has been set up on the campus of Kumarappa National Handmade Paper Institute (KNHPI), Jaipur, which is a unit of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).
Dilip Kumar: Legendary Indian Actor Dies
Legendary Bollywood actor Mohammed Yusuf Khan, known professionally as Dilip Kumar passed away at 98. He was popularly known as the tragedy king of Bollywood. He was last seen in the 1998 film Qila. He was the first actor to win the Filmfare Award for Best Actor in 1954 and won it a total of 8 times. He and Shah Rukh Khan jointly hold the record for most Filmfare trophies.
Dilip Kumar was born on 11 December 1922, the Qissa Khawani Bazaar area of Peshawar (present-day Pakistan) to Ayesha Begum and Lala Ghulam Sarwar Khan.
He debuted in films with 1944's Jwar Bhata, but the film and his work did not garner much attention. It was with 1947's Jugnu, also starring Noor Jehan, that he clinched his first box office hit.
In 1949, he starred in Andaz with Raj Kapoor and Nargis, and it was that film that made Dilip Kumar a big star.
Dilip Kumar is listed in the Guinness World Records for winning the maximum number of awards by an Indian actor. He is also credited as the first method actor in India.
He was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
