AR Rahman Appointed Ambassador of Indo-UK Culture Platform

  • Music Maestro, AR Rahman was appointed as ambassador of The Season of Culture, which marks the 75th anniversary of India's independence. It was officially launched, by Britain's Deputy High Commissioner to India Jan Thomson and Director (India) of the British Council Barbara Wickham. The Season of Culture aims to strengthen India-UK collaboration in the areas of arts, English and education.
  • Over 1,400 artists will showcase their collaborations to millions of audiences across India, Britain, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, through a wide array of arts such as theatre, dance, visual arts, literature, music, architecture, design, fashion, tech-art and new media art. The 'Season of Culture' intends to build on the British Council's work in India and strengthen partnerships between India and the UK in the arts, English, and education. People in both nations will get the opportunity to see unique and exciting creative work by UK and Indian artists.

Ramkrishna Mukkavilli Becomes the First Indian to be Recognised by United Nations Global Compact ...

  • For the first time in the world, an Indian has been named a Global Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Pioneer for Water Stewardship by the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC). The United Nations Global Compact has named ten new SDG Pioneers, who are corporate leaders who are excelling in advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by implementing the UN Global Compact Ten Principles on human rights, environment, labour, and anti-corruption.
  • Professionals working at any level in a firm engaging in the UN Worldwide Compact were targeted for the global search, with winners picked from every continent. Their work covers a wide range of topics, including climate mitigation and adaptation, as well as circular economy and digital transformation.

Virat Kohli Becomes the 1st Indian to Reach 200 Million Followers on Instagram

  • Indian cricket star Virat Kohli crossed the 200 million followers mark on the social media site Instagram. With this, he became the first Indian to have 200 million followers on Instagram. Kohli is also the third most followed sportsperson on Instagram. Portugal football star Cristiano Ronaldo tops the chart with 451 million followers, ahead of Argentina football captain and FC Barcelona legend Lionel Messi with 334 million followers.
  • Kohli has been the most successful Test captain India has ever produced. After taking over the reins from MS Dhoni, he has led India in 68 Test matches and secured 40 wins at a win percentage of 58.82. Kohli has 27 centuries in Test matches and 43 tons in ODI cricket. He has not scored a century since November 2019. His last ton in international cricket came in a day-night Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens.

MS Dhoni Becomes Brand Ambassador of Garuda Aerospace

  • Former Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni invested in Chennai-based drone startup Garuda Aerospace Pvt Ltd. The Chennai Super Kings captain has also been roped in as the brand ambassador of the startup that has about 400 drones and 500 pilots. Agnishwar Jayaprakash, founder CEO of Garuda Aerospace, said that it was a dream-come-true moment for him to see Dhoni as part of the Garuda Aerospace family.
  • Apart from serving over 750 clients, Garuda also partnered with Swiggy, HAL, DRDO, IIT Madras, IIT Roorkee, Make in India, Invest India, MIT Boston, Intel, Wipro and Cognizant to constantly innovate and explore new frontiers. According to the startup, their pilots are operating in 26 cities.

Indo-Tibetan Border Police Team Scales Mount Abi Gamin

  • An Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) mountaineering team scaled Mount Abi Gamin located at an altitude of 24,131 feet in Uttarakhand. The expedition, undertaken by the ITBP'S Northern Frontier, was launched from Dehradun and the team returned to the base camp.
  • The team, led by Deputy Commandant Kuldeep Kumar of the 2nd Battalion, comprised 14 personnel, including two Assistant Commandants, and four local sherpas. Abi Gamin is located in the central Himalayas at the culminating point of the Zaskar range.

At 83, Japanese Oldest to Sail Solo across Pacific

  • An 83-year-old Japanese adventurer successfully completed his solo, non-stop voyage across the Pacific, becoming the oldest person to reach the milestone. Kenichi Horie arrived in the Kii Strait off Japan's western coast, completing his trans-Pacific voyage in 69 days after leaving a yacht harbour in San Francisco in March 2022.
  • It was the latest achievement for the octogenarian adventurer, who in 1962 became the first person in the world to successfully complete a solo non-stop voyage across the Pacific from Japan to San Francisco. Sixty years later, he travelled the opposite route.

Sachin Tendulkar to Continue as UNICEF's Goodwill Ambassador for 20th Year

  • Sachin Tendulkar will continue as United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) 'Goodwill Ambassador' for a record 20th year, working for the welfare of underprivileged children. The iconic cricketer has been associated with UNICEF for a long for various causes. In his almost two-decade-long partnership with UNICEF, he has been vital in furthering the campaigns, especially the ones aimed at providing a better future for underprivileged children.
  • In 2003, he was chosen to take lead in the initiative to create awareness and promote polio prevention in India. Later in 2008, he was roped in to create and promote hygiene and sanitation among communities and has been continuing to do so over the years. In 2013, he was appointed UNICEF Ambassador for South Asia to advocate good hygiene and sanitation across the region. In 2019, he went on a three-day trip to Nepal to raise awareness for UNICEF Nepal's 'Bat for Brain Development' campaign.
