Best MBA Colleges: Stanford, Harvard and Wharton Top QS World Ranking for Business Schools

  • IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore retained their slots among the top 50 global business schools in the latest round of the QS World University Rankings: Global MBA and Business Master's.
  • Other Indian institutions in the top league included IIM Calcutta, which improved its position from 76 to 68, and the Indian School of Business in the 78th position, showing a significant rise from last year's 92.
  • Globally, for the third consecutive year, Stanford GSB's full-time MBA was named the world's number one, followed by Harvard Business School and The Wharton School.

Rajasthan Governor Appoints new VCs to Eight Universities for 3-year Term

  • Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra issued orders for the appointment of vice chancellors to eight universities in consultation with the state government.
  • Some of the newly appointed vice chancellors are, Dr. Abhay Kumar Vyas was appointed the vice chancellor of Agriculture University, Kota; Prof Bagda Ram Choudhary of Agricultural University, Jodhpur; and Dr. Arun Kumar of Swami Kesavanand Rajasthan Agricultural University, Bikaner.
  • All the eight vice chancellors were appointed for a term of three years or till they attain the age of 70, whichever is earlier.

Six UK Institutions Partner with Jindal University for Overseas Education

  • The O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU) established comprehensive and meaningful partnerships with six prestigious universities in the UK.
  • This ensures that JGU students would benefit from meaningful, internationally recognised global education opportunities. Towards this end, JGU has signed new agreements with the following UK institutions -- University of Birmingham, University of Edinburgh, University of Essex, University of Liverpool, University of Nottingham and University of Sussex.
  • JGU students would benefit from these programmes in different ways, including student exchanges, study abroad courses and dual degree offers at these outstanding universities.

ICCR Collaborates with Google for Global Promotion of Sanskrit

  • The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) announced a collaboration with Google to promote Sanskrit.
  • ICCR and Google had earlier signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to advance the tech giant's artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) language technology for translating Sanskrit literature to many other languages and vice-versa.
  • Google received 100,000 sentence pairs from ICCR as part of the project's pilot phase in order to form its AI/ML models. The Sanskrit team from the University of Delhi, comprising academics, students and teachers, was led by professor Amarjiva Lochan.

IIT Gandhinagar, SERB Host a National Conclave on Women in Science and Technology

  • The Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), the Government of India and the Indian Institute of Technology Gandhinagar (IITGN) organised a national conclave on "Women in Science & Technology: Fostering Innovation" for women researchers, scientists and engineers.
  • The event aimed to encourage women working in science, technology, and engineering fields to translate their innovative ideas into technology, instil the spirit of entrepreneurship in the participants, and facilitate discussions about translational research and its challenges.
  • More than 150 women scientists, researchers, engineers, students, and postdoctoral fellows from industry and academia across the country participated in the conclave. All those participants were recipients of SERB grants and fellowships and work on diverse research projects.

ASI Explores 100 Archeological Remains in MP's Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve

  • In a first of its kind exploration, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Jabalpur circle, found more than 100 remains including largest Varha sculpture of 2nd century to 15th century in the core area of the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserves in Madhya Pradesh's Umaria.
  • A large Varaha sculpture measuring 6.4x5.03x2.77 metre of 9th –13th century CE was found. It appears to be the world's largest sculpture.
  • Twenty-six caves of 2nd Century CE to 5th century CE were found. Most of the caves belong to Buddhist. The remains of Mahayana sect of Buddhism like chaitya shaped doors and cells containing stone beds came to light.
  • The team found a Votive Stupa and a Buddhist pillar fragment containing miniature stupa carving.
  • The other findings include stone games, water filter structure, coins and inscriptions.

Bhattacharya Removed as V-C of 2 Universities

  • The state government removed former WBSSC chairman Subiresh Bhattacharya as vice-chancellor of North Bengal University and Darjeeling Hill University, over a week after the CBI arrested him in connection with the SSC recruitment scam.
  • The government appointed Jadavpur University professor Omprakash Mishra as interim vice-chancellor of both the universities for three months, until it appoints a regular vice-chancellor through a search committee.
  • Omprakash Mishra, a former head of department of International Relations at Jadavpur University, was earlier a Congress leader in the state. However, he joined the ruling Trinamool Congress in 2020.

IIM Ahmedabad Launches New Programme for Professionals in Aviation and Aeronautics

  • The Indian aviation and aeronautics sector has emerged from a challenging pandemic period and is flying high once again. The number of travellers is expected to double to 400 million in the coming years and the market size is anticipated to grow to USD 4.33 billion by 2025.
  • To meet the needs of this rapidly expanding sector, premier B-School IIM Ahmedabad, in association with Ecole Nationale de l'Aviation Civile (ENAC) France, launched a programme that aims to equip new-age management professionals with skills necessary to lead the sector through its next phase of development.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Inaugurates 13th FICCI Global Skills Summit 2022

  • The 13th FICCI Global Skills Summit 2022, with the theme "Education to Employability – Making It Happen," was inaugurated and addressed by the Union Minister of Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi.
  • The subject of the 13th Global Skills Summit, 'Education to Employability – Making it Happen,' would focus on facilitating the transition from education to employability for our country's youth. After 34 years since the National Policy of Education was launched in 1986, the new National Education Policy-2020 envisions a learning ecosystem that is second to none. Our country is currently on the verge of capitalizing on the demographic dividend, disruptive technology, and a changing world of work. The Summit would look through the NEP lens and focus on how India can become the "Skill Capital of the World," using the UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG4) as an underlying theme.

IIT Roorkee Bags Eat Right Campus Award 2022 from FSSAI

  • The high quality of food served by IIT Roorkee bagged it the Eat Right Campus award 2022 from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) which conducted a third-party audit of all 12 messes of the institute in August 2022.
  • The audit was conducted on the basis of international standards and protocols, which assessed the preparation of food, the food served, the quality and sustainability of the food, cleanliness in the mess, and the health of the mess workers.
  • The audit is done through a checklist based on five parameters. On the basis of the final audit score, the institute is certified as 'Eat Right Campus' with a five-star rating by securing 90 out of 100 marks under this rigorous quality audit.
