Winners of IFFCO IIMCAA Awards

The Indian Institute of Mass Communication Alumni Association (IIMCAA) conducted its 11th annual alumni meet Connections 2023, at its New Delhi headquarters. At the event, the winners of the 7th IFFCO IIMCAA Awards were announced. The Director General of the IIMC, Prof. Sanjay Dwivedi, presented awards to the winners.
The IFFCO IMCA Award winners: Odisha's litterateur Dr. Gayatri Bala Panda received the Alumni of the Year award. Pankaj Chandra Goswami, Amit Katoch, Sushil Singh, and ATE P. Lee received the Public Service Award. Utkarsh Singh of Bihar won the Journalist of the Year Award and received Rs. 1.50 lakh in cash. Rohit Vishwakarma of Delhi won a reward of Rs. 1 lakh for his work in agricultural journalism.
Andrew Amsan of Delhi won the "Reporter of the Year" award in publishing, and Nibir Deka of Assam won in broadcasting. Both received a prize of INR 50,000.
Jyoti Jangra of Delhi was awarded Producer of the Year, A.R. Hemant of Karnataka was awarded PR Person of the Year, and Mohit Pasricha of Delhi was awarded Ad Person of the Year.
The "Lifetime Achievement Award" was given to Prof. Gita Bamezai, Anita Kaul Basu, Prakash Patra, Samudra Gupta Kashyap, and Anurag Vajpeyi.

Bhutan Aims to End Malaria by 2025

As per reports, Bhutan, which had earlier failed to meet targets for the elimination of malaria in 2018 and 2020, now aims to eliminate the disease by 2025.
Bhutan's Health Minister said that cross-border issues in the south especially during the COVID-19 pandemic have hampered the country's progress to eliminate malaria.
According to the Health Minister, malaria elimination is achieved when the country does not report any indigenous or community cases. It means that the country could report imported malaria cases even if the country achieves elimination status.

IIT Mandi Invites Uttar Pradesh Govt. Schools and Teachers for PRAYAS 2.0

For PRAYAS 2.0, the Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi's Centre for Continuing Education (CCE) extended an invitation to Uttar Pradesh government school students and teachers. The summer camp will be organised from June 5 to July 4, 2023.
By engaging young students in mentor-based programmes, the Institute aims to inspire them to become science and technology leaders and innovators.
In addition to studying Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (AI), the students will be implementing these concepts and applying them in real-life situations and coming up with innovative ideas that could change the world.
In 2022, the Institute in collaboration with Himachal Pradesh Kaushal Vikas Nigam, Shimla, successfully hosted its first School Camp on Robotics and Artificial Intelligence (PRAYAS 1.0) from July 1, 2022 to July 22, 2022 and hosted 100 participants.

MSU Hosts Y20 India Summit

The Maharaja Sayajirao University hosted a two-day Youth20 (Y20) India Summit with focus on the theme of climate change and environmental conservation.
The conference was inaugurated by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Over 600 delegates from 62 countries participated and discussed 'Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction: Making sustainability a Way of Life'.
Organised by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports to mark the celebration of India's G20 Presidency, 167 delegates from G20 nations, eight international scholars, 12 national scholars, 25 international delegates, 25 national delegates, 25 representatives of Youth Ministry, 50 start-ups working on environment, 15 Shodh scholars, 10 NSS members and 250 students of various universities from the field of urban planning, climate change and environment studies participated in the discussions.

IIT Madras Partners with Ansys to Augment NPTEL Courses to Build Skills in Emerging Technologies

IT Madras partnered with Ansys to implement a programme through NPTEL focused on emerging technologies such as Electrification, 5G, Autonomous Vehicles, Drones, and Healthcare, among others.
The CSR funding from Ansys ensures that the certification fee is waived to hundreds of students from underprivileged backgrounds and in particular to female candidates, increasing the employability of students undertaking these certifications. With Ansys' funding, the cost of certification for qualified students will be reduced by 50 per cent.
NPTEL currently works closely with more than 5,000 colleges across India in various disciplines including engineering, arts, commerce, science and management. Many students and faculty take these certification examinations to improve their employability and upskill themselves with the latest skills in their area.

Angavastra for Students Graduating Delhi University this Year

At the 99th convocation of Delhi University, students and officials of Delhi University will no longer be seen wearing a hat and a gown. Rather, students would wear traditional attire when graduating.
This year, students will be given a shawl or an angavstra to wear along with the traditional attire that has been mandated this year onwards. A convocation committee, set up by the DU vice-chancellor about two months ago, came up with new design ideas for the attire which were sent to the academic and executive councils for approval.
The administration and teachers will also be donning traditional Indian outfits for the convocation. The ethos behind the idea is to move away from the colonial mindset prevailing for many years.
The tree of life symbol along with the logo of Delhi University in purple will be prominent on the attire. The colour of the dresses will be different for different categories of students.

Technology brought young innovative minds together once again as Vadodara-based Parul University hosted the latest edition of Gujarat's largest tech fest, Projections 2023. This year's (2023) Projections gave a platform to tech enthusiasts and technologically driven individuals across the state and the country to showcase their skills and talents. The festival saw immense participation from youth in a myriad of technical and non-technical events, games, and workshops. With over 10,000 participants from more than 15 states and more than 45,000+ viewers, the tech fest was buzzing with talented innovators.

IIT Guwahati Innovators Construct 3D Printed Security Post Using Industrial Waste

As a part of the G20 initiatives, IIT Guwahati innovators constructed a 3D printed security post using a special M40 grade sustainable concrete containing industrial wastes, fibres and chemical admixtures.
A team of Dodda Srinivas, Dhrutiman Dey, and Akshay Sahu, started a start-up, Stratify 3D Pvt. Ltd. under the mentorship of Dr. Biranchi Panda, Assistant Professor, IIT Guwahati, developed this digital technology in line with 'AatmaNirbhar Bharat' vision of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This automated and innovative technology developed at IIT Guwahati is ready to provide customised houses in India in less construction time with controlled quality.

Former IIT Delhi Director Named as New VC of BITS Pilani

Former director of Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT-Delhi), Professor V. Ramgopal Rao was named the new Vice Chancellor of Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (BITS Pilani).
The current Vice Chancellor, Professor Souvik Bhattacharyya will be leaving on March 10. Professor Rao will be the Vice Chancellor of campuses located in Pilani, Goa, Hyderabad, Dubai and Mumbai.
During his tenure, he improved the ranking of IIT Delhi across all campus ranking platforms through various steps including creation of 13 new centres of excellence and 10 new academic units as well as implementing a multipronged approach towards faculty recruitment, research finds, social media engagement and more.
