IIT Kharagpur's Prabina Rajib New Director of BIMTECH Greater Noida

  • Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH), a renowned institution for business education in India, appointed Professor Prabina Rajib as its new Director. She succeeded the esteemed Harivansh Chaturvedi in this crucial leadership role.
  • Rajib, hailing from the esteemed IIT Kharagpur's Vinod Gupta School of Management, brings a wealth of experience to her new position. Renowned for her expertise in Finance and accounting, she is a distinguished figure with notable contributions to academia. Her scholarly achievements include authoring influential books and receiving promotions that underscore her commitment to excellence.

Yogi Adityanath Launches PM SHRI Scheme

  • Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched the PM SHRI schools initiative at Lok Bhawan. This step is a big move to modernise 928 schools in Uttar Pradesh.
  • During the launch event, Adityanath emphasised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of positioning India as a global leader in education.
  • Out of the 1753 selected schools in Uttar Pradesh for the PM Schools for Rising India (SHRI) Yojana, the first phase will concentrate on upgrading 928 schools. These educational institutions will be transformed into integrated campuses, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to foster a conducive learning environment.
  • Prime Minister Modi had announced this scheme on Teacher's Day in 2022 to align with the National Education Policy 2020.
  • The PM SHRI initiative aims to revolutionise educational infrastructure by introducing modern facilities such as Smart Classrooms, Digital Libraries, Science Laboratories, Computer Labs, Bal Vatikas, additional classrooms and upgraded furniture in PM Shri Vidyalayas.

NMC Introduces Post-doctoral Fellowship Courses in Medical Colleges

  • Medical education regulator - National Medical Commission has for the first time introduced post-doctoral fellowship courses in medical colleges regulated by it, in an effort to promote research and clinical skill development.
  • Medical institutions till now were creating and approving these courses at their own level to train doctors.
  • The regulator had notified "Post-Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 2023" according to which once a medical college is granted permission to start PG course or seats, the course will be treated as recognised.

Ministry of Education Launches PRERANA Program

  • Department of School Education & Literacy, Ministry of Education, Government of India launched 'Prerana: An Experiential Learning program', aiming to offer a meaningful, unique, and inspiring experience to all participants, thereby empowering them with leadership qualities.
  • Prerana is driven by a strong commitment to integrate principles of Indian education system and the philosophy of value-based education which is a corner stone of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
  • Prerana is a week-long residential program for selected students of class IX to XII. It is an experiential and inspirational learning program for students with the best-in-class technology where heritage meets innovation. A batch of 20 selected students (10 boys and 10 girls) will attend the program, every week from various parts of the country.

ERNET India Launches New Web Portal for Education Institutes

  • Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) Secretary S. Krishna launched Education and Research Network (ERNET) India's newly developed integrated web portal for educational institutes in the country.
  • Developed by utilising open-source software and emerging technologies such as AI and ML, the portal will offer domain registration, DNS and value-added services such as Website as a Service (WaaS) and Learning Management as a Service (LMaaS).
  • The users can select from the variety of available templates for schools, colleges, universities as per their requirement and create their own website and Learning Management System. The users can publish the website and LMS by customizing the template with a single click.

Delhi University Announces Financial Support Scheme

  • The Delhi University's Dean Students' Welfare office announced its Financial Support Scheme (FSS) 2023-24 for students whose family annual income is less than Rs. 8 lakh.
  • This financial assistance scheme is for full-time bonafide students studying in any UG/ PG degree programme at a department/ institution/ centre of University of Delhi belonging to specific categories:
  • Students whose family income per annum is less than or equal to Rs. 4 lakh will be given a fee waiver of up to 100 per cent (actual fee or up to a maximum of Rs. 10,000).
  • Students whose family income per annum is between Rs. 4 and 8. lakh will be given a fee waiver of up to 50 per cent (actual fee or up to a maximum of Rs. 8,000).
  • The fee waiver includes all components of the fee paid at Delhi University except examination fee and hostel fee.

IIT Madras Students Host 25th Edition of Shaastra

  • Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras students are hosting the 25th edition of Shaastra, the largest student-run, annual techno-entertainment festival in India, from January 3 to 7, 2024.
  • The silver jubilee edition will host several events on technologies like cybersecurity, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Machine Learning (ML) along with robotics.
  • The theme of Shaastra focuses on 'Spokes of Time', depicting the evolution of technology over time.

University Commission Launches Annual Skill Development Plan for Employees

  • The University Grants Commission (UGC) launched its first Annual Capacity Building Plan (ACBP). This initiative is designed to enhance the growth and skills of UGC employees.
  • In an official ceremony, UGC Chairman Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar inaugurated the ACBP alongside R. Balasubramanium, Member HR, Capacity Building Commission.
  • UGC is the first autonomous organisation to have initiated planning for the capacity building of its employees in collaboration with Capacity Building Commission.
  • The Annual Capacity Building Plan (ACBP) is a comprehensive plan outlining interventions essential for enhancing individual officials' competencies and the overall capacity of UGC and this plan is derived from a robust Capacity Need Assessment exercise that was done with UGC officials and staff over a period of 6 months starting from March, 2023.
