  • While Ekta was honoured with the International Emmy Directorate Award, Vir won an Emmy for his Netflix comedy special 'Vir Das: Landing'. He shared the award with 'Derry Girls Season 3'. Shefali Shah, who was competing in the Best Actress category, lost the Emmy to Karla Souza for 'La Ca­da [Dive]'. British actor Martin Freeman won the Best Actor award for 'The Responder'. Deepti Babuta Becomes First Woman to Bag Dhahan Prize for Punjabi Literature

  • Mohali-based Deepti Babuta became the first woman to bag the Dhahan Prize, the largest international literary award for fiction books in Punjabi language.
  • Babuta received the award for her short story collection, 'Bhukh Eon Sah Laindi Hai' ('Hunger Breathes Like This'). She was presented with a cash award of $25,000 CAD and a trophy at a ceremony held at Northview Golf and Country Club in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.
  • Alongside her, two other finalists -- Lahore-based Jameel Ahmad Paul and Mohali's Balijit were awarded $10,000 CAD each.
  • This is for the first time in its 10-year history that the top prize has gone to a woman.
  • The Dhahan Prize was established by the Canada India Education Society (CIES) and the University of British Columbia (UBC) in 2013 to give a platform to both aspiring and established writers to take their work to a broader, multilingual audience.

Covid Warriors Given Indira Gandhi Peace Prize

  • The Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development, 2022, was awarded jointly to the Indian Medical Association and the Trained Nurses Association of India as representatives of the Covid warriors in the country.
  • Former Vice President M. Hamid Ansari presented the award to Sharad Kumar Agarwal, the president of the Indian Medical Association, and Roy K. George, the president of the Trained Nurses Association of India.

Tamil Writer Perumal Murugan Wins 2023 JCB Literary Prize

  • Tamil writer Perumal Murugan's novel 'Fire Bird', translated into English by Janani Kannan, won the 2023 JCB Prize for Literature. The book was published by Penguin Random House India. As neither Murugan nor Kannan were present at the award ceremony, publisher and author Manasi Subramaniam received the prize on their behalf.
  • JCB Prize for Literature is an Indian literary award established in 2018. It is awarded annually to a distinguished work of fiction by an Indian writer working in English or translated fiction by an Indian writer.
