Infantry Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the indomitable spirit and courage of all ranks and veterans of the Infantry and said they always stand resolute in the face of any adversity, ensuring the safety and security of the nation.
Infantry Day is celebrated every year on October 27 to commemorate the landing of the 1st Battalion of the Sikh Regiment at the Srinagar airfield on October 27, 1947, to protect the people of Jammu and Kashmir from the designs of Pakistani Kabaili Raiders aided by the Pakistan Army.

World Polio Day

World Polio Day is observed annually on October 24 across the globe to raise awareness about the crippling disease, poliomyelitis, or polio. The day underscores global efforts to eradicate the disease and ensure a polio-free world for future generations.
World Polio Day was established in 1985 by Rotary International to commemorate the efforts of Dr. Jonas Salk, the lead researcher behind the development of the first successful polio vaccine. Following his discovery, the global eradication of polio gained tremendous momentum when Rotary International and the World Health Organization (WHO) formed the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) in 1988.
The theme for World Polio Day 2024, 'A Global Mission to Reach Every Child,' focuses on the continued efforts to ensure all children are vaccinated against polio, particularly in regions where the virus remains a threat.

World Development Information Day

World Development Information Day is celebrated every year on October 24, coinciding with United Nations Day. This observance was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, with the primary goal of drawing global attention to development issues and promoting the dissemination of information that supports international cooperation for development.

United Nations Day

The United Nations Day is celebrated annually on October 24. This day is a global celebration of the UN's mission to promote peace, security, human rights, and development around the world.
The United Nations was officially established on October 24, 1945, after the UN Charter was ratified by a majority of signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council: the United States, the United Kingdom, the Soviet Union, China, and France. This moment marked the beginning of a new era in international relations, with the formation of an organisation dedicated to preventing future conflicts and promoting peace.
The idea of forming an international body to prevent wars was initially conceptualized during World War II, and the first official proposal came in 1941 through the Atlantic Charter. It laid the foundation for the United Nations, which was later developed through a series of conferences, most notably the San Francisco Conference in 1945, where the UN Charter was drafted.
Last year (2023), the theme was, "Equality, Freedom & Justice for All."

Mole Day

Mole Day is an unofficial holiday celebrated annually on October 23 from 6:02 am to 6:02 pm. This date and time honour's Avogadro's Number, which is a basic concept in chemistry. The day promotes interest in chemistry, especially among students of this particular branch, educators and scholars.
The concept of Mole Day was conceived in the early 1980s by then-National Science Teacher Association (NSTA) member Margaret Christoph of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.
The theme for Mole Day 2024 is 'EncantMole'. This playful theme combines 'Encanto,' a popular animated film, with 'mole,' the unit of measurement in chemistry, to create a fun and engaging way to celebrate the day.

International Stuttering Awareness Day

International Stuttering Awareness Day 2024 is observed annually on the 22nd of October.
ISAD was initiated in 1998 by Michael Sugarman, a prominent advocate for stuttering awareness from Oakland, California.
The day aims to foster collaboration between Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) and individuals who stutter, promoting mutual learning and support.
It serves as a platform to educate the public about stuttering, its effects on individuals, and the importance of empathy and understanding.
The theme for International Stuttering Awareness Day 2024 is 'The Power of Listening'. The theme highlights the opportunity people who stutter must teach others to listen, which can help build trust and understanding.

Police Commemoration Day

India marks Police Commemoration Day on October 21 every year to remember the policemen who died in an ambush by Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh, in 1959. The day is dedicated to paying tribute to the bravery and service of police personnel who protect the nation.
On October 21, 1959, during a period of heightened tensions along the India-China border, 10 on-duty Indian policemen were ambushed by Chinese troops at Hot Springs in Aksai Chin. The policemen were engaged in a reconnaissance mission when they were fired upon without provocation.
This assault resulted in the deaths and injuries of several officers. The bodies of the deceased were returned 23 days later and were cremated with full military honours.
To pay tribute to the memory of these brave police personnel who sacrificed their lives and to honour all police officers rendering their services to the nation both domestically and internationally, the Annual Conference of Inspectors General of Police decided in January 1960 to observe October 21 as Police Commemoration Day.
