KRAS Rolls Out the First Batch of Indigenous Missiles for Indian Army
Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems (KRAS) rolled out its first batch of medium-range surface-to-air missiles (MRSAM) for the Indian Army and the Air Force from its Hyderabad plant.
KRAS is a joint venture between the Kalyani Group and Israel's Rafael Advanced Defence Systems. This was part of the company's agreement to deliver over 1000 MRSAM missile kits to the Indian Army and Air Force over the coming years.
These missile sections will then be further integrated by state-run Bharat Dynamics Limited.

Army Decommissions 130mm Self-propelled Guns and 160mm Mortars
The Army decommissioned two of the longest serving artillery systems, the 130mm self-propelled M-46 catapult guns and 160mm Tampella Mortars from service at Mahajan field firing ranges.
"These weapon systems, having been in the inventory of the Army for close to 60 years, have been decommissioned to make way for newer equipment employing the latest technologies," an Army statement said.
The ceremony was marked by the customary firing of last salvos.
The 130mm Catapult inducted in 1981, with a range of more than 27 km, was a successful merger of two existing weapon systems, Vijayanta tanks and 130mm M-46 guns.

India's Import of Arms Decreases
According to a report released by Stockholm-based defence think-tank SIPRI, India's import of arms decreased by 33 per cent between 2011–15 and 2016–20 and Russia was the most affected supplier.
It said the drop in Indian arms imports seemed to have been the result of the country's complex procurement processes combined with an attempt to reduce its dependence on Russian arms.
In the last few years, India has taken a series of measures to boost domestic defence industry with an aim to reduce dependence on imported military platforms and hardware.

US is World's Top Weapons Supplier, Saudi Arabia Top Importer
According Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, more than a third of the global arms sold worldwide during the past five years originated in the United States, underscoring its role as the world's top weapons seller.
The US accounted for 37 per cent of global arms sales during the 2016-2020 period, and sold arms to 96 countries. Half of its sales went to the Middle East.
Russia was the world's second-largest exporter, followed by France Germany and China, respectively.
Saudi Arabia was the world's largest arms importer during the period, accounting for 11 per cent of global imports.
Other top importers were India, Egypt, Australia, and China.
Quad Member Countries to be Part of France-led Joint Naval Exercises
India will be part of France-led exercises "La Pérouse" that will take place in early April this year in the Bay of Bengal. With the Indian Navy's addition, all Quad member countries - US, Japan, and Australia will be part of France initiated joint naval exercise.
France initiated the joint naval exercise "La Pérouse" in 2019 and that time had included US, Japanese, and Australian forces. The exercises have been named after La Pérouse a French naval officer and explorer from in 18th century.

IAF set to Raise Second Squadron of Rafale Jets in Hasimara
The Indian Air Force is set to raise a second squadron of the Rafale combat aircraft in mid-April and it will be based in Hasimara air base in West Bengal.
The first squadron of the Rafale jets is stationed at Ambala Air Force station. The first batch of five Rafale jets arrived in India on July 29 last, nearly four years after India signed an inter-governmental agreement with France to procure 36 of the aircraft at a cost of Rs. 59,000 crore.
The formal induction ceremony of the fleet had taken place at Ambala in September 2020.
