India Successfully Test-fires Air Version of BrahMos Supersonic Cruise Missile

  • India successfully test-fired the air version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile from the integrated test range of Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha.
  • the air version of the missile was test-fired from supersonic fighter aircraft Sukhoi 30 MK-I.
  • BrahMos is a joint venture between India (DRDO) and Russia (NPOM) for the development, production and marketing of the supersonic cruise missile. The offensive missile weapon system has been inducted into the Armed Forces.

UAE Signs Deal for 80 French Rafale Fighter Jets

  • France and the United Arab Emirates signed deal on the supply of 80 Rafale warplanes, manufactured by French company Dassault Aviation.
  • French President Emmanuel Macron has forged a good relationship with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed al-Nahyan (MBZ), with investments flowing between both countries. Paris has a permanent military base in the Emirati capital.

Bangladesh, US Kick off Bilateral Exercise CARAT

  • US military personnel and Bangladesh Navy (BN) carried out the 27th annual Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) maritime exercise virtually in the Bay of Bengal. The nine-day exercise focuses on a wide range of naval capabilities and includes cooperative actions that demonstrate the US and Bangladesh's capacity to work together to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific.
  • CARAT is to promote regional cooperation and build relationships, according to Bangladesh Navy Fleet Commander Rear Admiral S. M. Abdul Kalam Azad. Since 2011, the Bangladesh Navy has been participating in the CARAT exercise, which celebrated its 27th anniversary in 2021.
  • CARAT exercise is an annual bilateral exercise. United States Pacific Fleet, a command of the US Navy conducts it with several ASEAN members.
  • Currently, Exercise CARAT is conducted with navies of nine nations, which are the navies of Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.

BDL Gets Contract to Service IGLA Manpad

  • Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) and Indian Army signed a contract worth Rs. 471.41 crore for Refurbishment of IGLA - 1M missiles. After the Refurbishment, a fresh lease of life will be given to the missile for a period of ten years.
  • The company, in addition to carrying out refurbishment, deals with manufacture and supply of Guided Missiles and associated equipment, Underwater Weapon Systems, Airborne Weapon Systems, Ground Support Equipment and product life cycle support.
  • In order to give momentum to its efforts towards self-reliance, BDL has also built-up its in-house R&D capabilities primarily focusing on design and engineering activities.
