Indian Coast Guard Signs MoU with Philippine Coast Guard to Enhance Maritime Cooperation

Indian Coastal Guard (ICG) and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on enhanced maritime cooperation.
The MoU was signed by DG Rakesh Pal, Director General Indian Coast Guard and CG Admiral Artemio M. Abu, Commandant, PCG at the Coast Guard Headquarters, New Delhi.
Both sides held their first bilateral meeting on a range of maritime issues.
The MoU inked seeks to enhance the professional linkage between the two Coast Guards in the domain of Maritime Law Enforcement (MLE), Maritime Search & Rescue (M-SAR) and Marine Pollution Response (MPR).
The implementation of this MoU will enhance bilateral maritime cooperation between the two nations for ensuring safe, secure and clean seas in the region.

Malabar Naval Exercise Concludes off Australian Coast

The 11-day Malabar naval exercise featuring the navies of India, Australia, Japan and the US concluded. The 27th edition of the exercise, which took place on the East Coast of Australia, witnessed complex and high intensity drills in air, surface and undersea domains.
Warships, submarines and aircraft from the Indian Navy, Royal Australian Navy (RAN), Japan Maritime Self Defence Force and the US Navy participated in the exercise.

Iran Builds Advanced Mohajer Drone with Enhanced Range

Iran has built an advanced homemade drone named Mohajer-10 with an enhanced flight range and duration as well as a greater payload.
The drone has an operational range of 2,000 km (1,240 miles) and can fly for up to 24 hours. Its payload can reach 300 kg (661 pounds), double the capacity of the Mohajer-6 drone.
U.S. officials have accused Iran of providing Mohajer-6 drones, among other unmanned aerial vehicles, to Russia in its war against Ukraine. Tehran denies this.

INS Vagir Sets New Record For Longest Scorpene Submarine Deployment

The Indian Navy's submarine, INS Vagir, made history by achieving an impressive milestone, it now holds the record for the longest-ever deployment of any scorpene-class submarine. The submarine covered an astonishing distance of 7,000 kilometres on its journey to Australia to participate in joint military exercises, marking a significant moment for both naval prowess and international cooperation.
INS Vagir's expedition to Australia marked the first time an Indian scorpene-class submarine ventured to Australian waters, signifying the growing collaboration between the Indian Navy and the Royal Australian Navy in enhancing maritime security and defense strategies.

IIT Delhi Develops World's Lightest Bulletproof Jacket

Researchers at IIT-Delhi developed the world's lightest bulletproof jackets, which are capable of stopping eight bullets fired from an AK-series rifle. The jackets, which weigh 8.2 kg, are over 2 kg lighter than the ones being used by the Indian Army.
Another version of the jacket weighs 9.5 kg and can stop as many as six bullets fired from certain sniper rifles. The bulletproof jackets that are being used by Indian soldiers currently weigh about 10.5 kg.
Professor Naresh Bhatnagar, from the Centre of Excellence on Personal Body Armour in IIT Delhi said that the jackets have been developed in collaboration with the Defence Research and Development Organisation and it took them 15 years to reach this point.

DIHAR Working to Provide Fresh Food to Army at Ladakh

People living in the arid land of Ladakh will be able to grow fresh vegetables around the year as scientists have developed a new greenhouse model, a passive solar greenhouse, for farming.
The model, developed by a team of scientists of the Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR), was displayed at the Ladakhi Kisan Jawan Vigyan Mela, an inter-unit garden competition organized by DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation).
DIHAR, established in 1960, was tasked to find ways to meet the fresh food requirement of the soldiers deployed in the harsh terrain of Ladakh. Researchers from DIHAR led by senior scientist Tsering Stobdan developed the new model of the Ladakh greenhouse, a passive solar greenhouse.
The new method eliminates the need for armed forces to consume canned food and helps them grow fresh vegetables inside their bunkers in just 10-12 days.

IAF to Hold Multi-National Exercise 'Tarang Shakti' Next Year

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is gearing up to host a colossal multilateral military exercise, 'Tarang Shakti', which was originally slated for October but has been rescheduled to the middle of 2024. The decision to push the exercise to next year came as several participating air forces expressed their inability to join the war-game if held in the current year.
Tarang Shakti' is set to draw the involvement of some prominent air forces, including those of France, the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, and Japan.
These nations will contribute their aerial assets such as fighter jets, military transport aircraft, and mid-air refuelers to the exercise.
Additionally, six other countries have been invited to participate as observers, further emphasizing the exercise's significance on the global stage.
The upcoming exercise is anticipated to serve as an impressive showcase of international teamwork and military capabilities, with the involvement of around 12 air forces.
The main goal of 'Tarang Shakti' is to reinforce military coordination and amplify the seamless interaction between the participating countries.

Government Clears Rs. 20,000 crore Deal to Build Five Warships

The government cleared a Rs. 20,000 crore deal to manufacture fleet support vessels (FSVs) which are urgently required by the Indian Navy.
These vessels, designed to serve as vital logistical lifelines, will play a crucial role in replenishing warships with essential supplies including fuel, food, and ammunition during missions.
The responsibility for constructing these crucial fleet support ships has been entrusted to the Visakhapatnam-based Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), a flagship enterprise under the defence ministry.
