IGNOU Launches PG Diploma in Journalism

  • The Indira Gandhi National Open University's (IGNOU) school of Journalism and New Media Studies launched a new Post Graduate (PG) diploma in Journalism and Mass Communication. The diploma is available in the online mode and in three languages — English, Hindi and Tamil.
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline is mandatory to be eligible for this diploma programme. The duration of the course is one year.

IIM Ahmedabad Ranks Top MBA College in India

  • The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, is the best college to pursue the Master of Business Administration (MBA) course in India, according to the latest ranking released by the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF). IIM Ahmedabad is followed by IIM Bengaluru and IIM Kolkata at second and third spots, respectively. The top three have remained unchanged since 2022.
  • The IIM, Lucknow, jumped one place to fourth rank from fifth in 2022.
  • The ranking was based on seven parameters: research, teaching-learning resources pedagogy, industry income and integration, placement performance, future orientation, external perception and international outlook, and placement strategies and support.

'Jeevan Vidya Shivir' Organized for Delhi Govt. School Teachers

  • Delhi State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) organized a 5-day 'Jeevan Vidya Shivir' for the teachers of Delhi government schools at Thyagaraja stadium. About 4,000 teachers from Delhi government schools participated in this workshop between January 28, 2023 to February 1, 2023.

Woxsen University Launches Project Aspiration for Girls in Telangana

  • Woxsen University with its firm belief in developing its ecosystem and empowering the community around the campus, launched Project Aspiration. Woxsen's Centre of Excellence – Diversity, Equity & Inclusion conceptualized this project for the ambitious girls of Classes IX-XII, Telangana Model School & Junior College.
  • Under Project Aspiration, few meritorious students were selected by the school principal to take part in 'Train the Trainer' workshop which commenced in the month of December, 2022. The training program was led by Postgraduate students of Woxsen University and mentored by Dr. Kakoli Sen, Dean – School of Business & Dr. Shubhendhu Patnaik, Cary Cooper Professor of Organisational Psychology.

Karnataka: Education Institutions Begin Crackdown on ChatGPT Usage

  • While the ChatGPT fever has gripped youngsters across the globe, in Bengaluru however, the AI agent could land you in trouble. Many private universities in Bengaluru are beginning to crack down on ChatGPT, which has become popular among the student community.
  • Launched in November 2022, ChatGPT developed by OpenAI, is an open-source platform that can write papers, articles and essays with proficiency, after a simple command. And this service is available to anyone with an internet connection, for free.

Maximum Number of Universities in Rajasthan, Least in Ladakh: AISHE Report

  • Rajasthan hosts the maximum number of universities in India followed by Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat, reveals the Ministry of Education's latest All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) Report. The report also stated the names of districts with a maximum number of colleges.
  • As per the report, Rajasthan has 52 state private universities, 26 state public universities, 7 deemed to be universities, 5 institutes of national importance (IITs, IIMs, NITs) and one central and state-run university.
  • Apart from these, Ladakh has the lowest number of universities (2), followed by Chandigarh, Goa and Mizoram with three universities each.
  • In Uttar Pradesh, there are 8114 colleges and for every one lakh population there are 32 colleges. Similarly, Maharashtra comes second with 4532 colleges and 34 colleges per lakh population. Karnataka comes at third position with 4233 colleges and 62 colleges per lakh population whereas Rajasthan is at fourth position with 3694 colleges and 40 colleges per lakh population.

IIT Madras to Organise G20 Seminar on 'Role of Digital Technology in Education'

  • IIT Madras is all set to organise a G20 seminar on 'Role of Digital Technology in Education' at its Research Park on January 31, 2023. It is intended to identify policies for the effective use of digital technology in education in the G20 member countries.
  • The G20 seminar will be held at IIT Madras Research Park (IITMRP) as part of 'Sherpa Track – 1st Education Working Group Meeting' in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, from January 31, 2023 to February 2, 2023.
  • The Education Working Group, under India's Presidency of G20, has a key objective to identify areas/themes to promote possible research and academic collaboration among educational institutions in G20 member countries.

Amit Shah Lays Foundation Stone for National Forensic Sciences University

  • Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid the foundation stone for a National Forensic Sciences University at the premises of University of Agricultural Sciences at Dharwad in North Karnataka. The establishment of the Forensic Sciences University in the state will help create expert manpower for the country to combat crime and result in the prosecution of the criminals.

SC Gives Six Weeks to Expert Committee to Find a Solution for Ukraine-returned Medical Students

  • The Supreme Court asked the committee to present a solution within six weeks for Indian students who returned from Ukraine due to the war. There are nearly 20,000 Indian students who had to return to India mid-degree.
  • Following the earlier court order, the committee constituted by the Centre has already met once, Additional Solicitor General of India Aishwarya Bhati told a bench comprising Justices B. R. Gavai and Vikram Nath.
  • Last month, the apex court asked the government to form a committee of experts to find a solution for students. The Court also said that these students can be a national asset when the country is facing a dearth of doctors.
