NMC Allows Foreign Graduates to Intern in Non-teaching for this Year

The National Medical Commission (NMC) relaxed its norms for a year, allowing foreign medical graduates who have passed their screening test to intern at non-teaching hospitals. Internships at 679 designated hospitals across the states will be allowed till May 2024. The relaxation was announced in view of some students – especially those who completed their training from China and Ukraine last year – having to do two year internship to fill gaps in their practical learning that was hampered due to the pandemic and the war.
This relaxation is granted only as one-time measure. The allotment of FMGs in these non-teaching hospitals shall also be done through concerned state medical councils.

Indian Institute of Technology Mandi researchers have identified microbial pairs that can effectively convert cellulose (a major component present in Agriculture residue and paper waste) into useful chemicals, biofuels, and carbon suitable for several industrial applications.
Plant dry matter, also known as lignocellulose, is one of the most abundant renewable materials on Earth. Lignocellulosic waste from agriculture, forests, and industries can be converted into valuable chemicals such as bio-ethanol, biodiesel, lactic acid, and fatty acids using a process called bio-processing.

New Course by IITs: BTech in Chemical Engineering at IIT Indore

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore launched a new course – BTech in Chemical Engineering for the academic year 2023-24. The programme intends to provide a holistic perspective to the students focusing on multidisciplinary, and hands-on approach.
The course is offered by 16 other IITs as well including IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kharagpur among others.
The programme structure and curriculum are developed by leading experts in academia from India and the world and encompass the traditional and modern topics of chemical engineering. It is offered with multiple specialisations including Petrochemical, Biochemical, Energy, Pharmaceutical, Processing etc.
It is a four-year full-time undergraduate degree programme divided into eight semesters. In each semester, candidates will have to study 6 to 7 subjects along with elective options.

IIT Madras, L&T EduTech Collaborate to Launch Joint Skilling Programmes for Engineering, Science ...

The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT M) will collaborate with L&T EduTech, the digitally-driven learning initiative by Larsen & Toubro, to launch industry skilling programmes for engineering and science students across India.
This initiative is being launched with the aim to bridge the gap that is required to make the students 'industry ready.' It will offer customised programmes for professionals across the industry to up skill themselves and achieve career progression. Pravartak Technologies will bring in experts from various engineering and science departments of IIT Madras while L&T EduTech will provide the industry expertise.

Uttar Pradesh Becomes First State to Make Digital Health Cards for Children

The Urban Development Department and Lucknow Smart City launched "School Health Program". Under the pilot project, the School Health Program was started by Lucknow Smart City in three schools in Lucknow.
Under this pilot project, 3 municipal schools including Aminabad Inter College, Kashmiri Mohalla Girls Inter College and Kashmiri Mohalla Montessori School were given the responsibility of health check-up of 1765 children. The team is making digital health cards by doing desk-to-desk examinations of the child.
A unique ID card will be made for each child, through which the child's parents, school and administrative officials can download this health card. Follow-up of the Digital Health Report is also done every six months. If a child is admitted to the hospital due to illness, then he can be treated through a health cover cashless card of Rs. 25,000.
By launching the "School Health Program" Uttar Pradesh became the first state to make digital health cards for children.

Centre for Innovation Incubation Research and Entrepreneurship Inaugurated in Telangana

In Telangana, the Centre for Innovation Incubation Research and Entrepreneurship (C-i2 RE) was inaugurated by IT Minister K. Taraka Ramarao at the Kakatiya Institute of Technology & Science (KITS) Warangal campus.
The Centre will promote innovation and entrepreneurship in the student community to inculcate research and innovative skills among the students, faculty, and young researchers. Over five crore rupees have been invested in the necessary infrastructural facilities. The Centre will be helpful to design live projects for the benefit of society. The main objective of the Innovation Centre is to face the latest Engineering, technological and entrepreneurship challenges in the 21st Century and to adopt advanced technologies. KITS Warangal is known for its quality education and the ethical behaviour of students in their place of work.

IIM-Sambalpur Launches Delhi Campus

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM)-Sambalpur launched its new campus in the national capital with courses for working professionals and entrepreneurs.
The objective of setting up a centre in Delhi is to tap a lot of working professionals, executives and entrepreneurs who want to pursue management studies on weekends from a premium IIM besides continuing their respective trade and profession.
Delhi, the capital of the nation, and its adjoining NCR cities host several government and public sector units, headquarters of corporate houses and big family businesses. There is a large pool of potential candidates.
Founded in 2015, the main campus of IIM-Sambalpur in Odisha offers PG, doctoral and MDP programmes to students.

WHO Declares End to Covid-19 Global Health Emergency

The World Health Organization ended the global emergency status for COVID-19 more than three years after its original declaration, and said that countries should now manage the virus that killed more than 6.9 million people along with other infectious diseases.
The global health agency's Emergency Committee met and recommended the UN organization declare an end to the coronavirus crisis as a "public health emergency of international concern" - its highest level of alert - which has been in place since Jan. 30, 2020.
Ending the emergency could mean that international collaboration or funding efforts are also brought to an end or shift in focus, although many have already adapted as the pandemic receded in different regions.

Assam Govt. Launches e-textbooks in 8 Mediums, 19 Languages

Assam government launched e-textbooks from pre-primary to Class 12, in a bid to make education accessible and readily available to students in the state. The e-textbooks were released in 8 mediums and 19 languages, making it easier for students, teachers, and guardians to access the textbooks anytime and anywhere.
Assam operates schools in 8 different mediums to accommodate the linguistic diversity of the state.
The launch programme was inaugurated by Cabinet Minister for Education and Welfare of Plain Tribe and Backward Classes Ranoj Pegu.
The launch event was held in the presence of Debananda Hazarika and Tulsi Barthakur, Chairman and VC of ASTPPCL, along with other officials of the Department of Education.

IIT Madras Launches Wellness Survey for Their Student, Faculty and other Staff Members

The Indian Institute of Technology Madras launched a wellness survey with the objective of reaching out to the stakeholders in the campus. The survey is being carried out by an independent agency which will get in touch with all the people on campus— students, staff, faculty members of the institute.
The survey is undertaken under the aegis of National Health Mission (NHM) by the government of Tamil Nadu. Over 30 counsellors have been deployed for this survey. The survey process involves a one-to-one conversation with the wellness specialist assigned by the NHM.
