Ministry of Education Launches Third Phase of Yuva Sangam

  • The Ministry of Education initiated the third phase of Yuva Sangam, a program designed under the 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' initiative. This phase involves a delegation of 50 students from various parts of Madhya Pradesh embarking on a cultural-cum-educational tour to West Bengal.
  • Yuva Sangam aims to foster experiential learning and introduce youth to the rich diversity of India. IIT-Madras to Counsel BTech Students, Parents Before Admission

  • In a bid to mitigate stress among students and prevent suicides, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras decided to start counselling parents and assessing mental health of students during the admission process.

Bihar to Launch 'Mission Daksh' for Nearly 25 Lakh Academically Weak School Children

  • The Bihar government will launch a programme, 'Mission Daksh', in December for nearly 25 lakh children lagging woefully behind their peers in schools with some of them incapable of reading simple Hindi words despite having reached upper primary classes.
  • As part of the programme, 'Mission Daksh', the state Education Department has directed teachers to intensively mentor such students, in batches of not more than five, with the warning that any laxity will cause them to face action.

IIM Sambalpur to Host 9th PAN IIM World Management Conference

  • The 9th PAN IIM World Management Conference will be held from December 21 to 23, 2023 at Sambalpur in Odisha. The conference will be hosted by IIM Sambalpur and will see the participation of all 21 IIMs across India.
  • The conference is spearheaded by the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India, and the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). The theme of the conference is 'Entrepreneurial Innovation and Digital Governance for Inclusive and Sustainable Growth'.
  • Apart from the 21 IIMs across the country, IITs, NITs, and other premium management institutes will participate in the conference and is likely to be attended by over 500 delegates including Directors, VCs, Deans, Professors and other officials.

UGC NET Syllabus to Be Revised, Says Chairman Jagadesh Kumar

  • The University Grants Commission (UGC) is set to revise the syllabus for the National Eligibility Test (NET) and will form an expert panel for the exercise, its chairman Jagadesh Kumar said.
  • The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the UGC-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and as an eligibility test for the appointment of assistant professors in the subjects of Humanities and Social Sciences, including Indian and some foreign languages, as well as in certain science subjects.
  • The UGC-NET is held twice every year, usually in June and December, in 83 subjects. The UGC last initiated the process to update the syllabi of UGC-NET subjects in 2017.

BHU Reports Increase in Enrolment of Foreign Students, Highest from Nepal

  • The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) registered a total of 312 international students from 30 countries for the academic session 2023-24. With this, the number of international students currently enrolled in the university reached an all-time high of 734 from 49 countries. This is also the first time that international enrolments have crossed the 300 mark.
  • Of the new 312 admissions in the 2023-24 session, as many as 172 students enrolled in undergraduate programmes, 112 for postgraduate programmes, while 16 students enrolled in PhD and 12 students took admission to the certificate or diploma courses.
  • The highest number of new entrants is from Nepal, with 155 students enrolling in various programmes, 85 students from Bangladesh, 11 from Sri Lanka and 10 from Myanmar.
