Parakram Diwas

Every year on January 23, India commemorates Parakram Diwas to celebrate the birth anniversary of one of the nation's greatest freedom fighters, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Known as Parakram Diwas, or the "Day of Valour," this day serves as a tribute to Bose's indomitable spirit and his unparalleled contributions to India's struggle for independence.
The Government of India officially designated January 23 as Parakram Diwas in 2021 to mark the 124th birth anniversary of Subhas Chandra Bose. The decision was a symbolic gesture to honour Netaji's indomitable spirit and his pivotal role in India's freedom movement.
The theme for Parakram Diwas 2025 is "Netaji: Honoring Courage, Determination and Patriotism".

Foundation Day: Tripura, Manipur and Meghalaya

Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted people of Tripura, Manipur and Meghalaya on their Foundation Day on January 21.
On January 21, 1972, the states of Tripura, Manipur, and Meghalaya became full-fledged states under the North Eastern Region (Re-organisation) Act, 1971. The princely states of Tripura and Manipur were merged with India in October 1949.
Meghalaya became an autonomous state through the Assam Reorganisation (Meghalaya) Act 1969.

Penguin Awareness Day

Penguin Awareness Day is observed on January 20 every year. The dwindling number of penguins needs more attention. The rapidly shrinking population of penguins every year goes mostly unnoticed because their natural habitat is usually where humans don't live. Penguin Awareness Day is a great initiative to raise awareness on this crucial matter, and also enjoy fun penguin-themed activities.
Gerry Wallace first celebrated National Penguin Day in 1972 in California. His wife's calendar prompted him to write an event. Later on, Ridgecrest, a city in California, celebrated World Penguin Day. There is nothing better than celebrating a special day for a unique bird, which gives so much joy, just by the way it is created.
The theme for Penguin Awareness Day 2025 is "Celebrating Penguins and Their Chilly Southern Home". This theme highlights the unique and fascinating adaptation of penguins to some of the harshest conditions on Earth and the crucial importance of conservation efforts to protect their natural habitats.

Benjamin Franklin Day

Benjamin Franklin Day is celebrated on January 17 every year, to pay tribute to one of the greatest Founding Fathers of the U.S. on the anniversary of his birth. Franklin was a notable polymath of his time. He was a poet, politician, scientist, writer, diplomat, statesman, political philosopher, printer, publisher, and inventor. He is best known for co-drafting the Declaration of Independence. He is also one of the most important founding figures of America. He is also the only Founding Father who signed all four key documents that laid the foundation for the U.S.

Pune to Host Army Day Parade 2025

The Army Day Parade, event in India's military calendar, will take place in Pune for the first time on 15 January 2025. This parade commemorates the appointment of Field Marshal K M Cariappa as the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army. The event, which traditionally occurs in Delhi, has been rotating to different cities since 2023, enhancing local engagement with the Armed Forces. Pune's selection puts stress on its historical connection to the military, being home to the Southern Command Headquarters and the National Defence Academy.
Indian Army Day is celebrated annually on 15 January. This date marks the founding of the Indian Army and the transfer of military leadership to Indian hands post-independence. Originally observed on 1 April 1895, the date was changed to honour the contributions and sacrifices of soldiers. The day aims to instil patriotism and respect for the armed forces among citizens.
