International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women

International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women is observed on November 25.
Women's rights activists have observed November 25 as a day against gender-based violence since 1981. This date was selected to honour the Mirabal sisters, three political activists from the Dominican Republic who were brutally murdered in 1960 by order of the country's ruler, Rafael Trujillo (1930-1961).
In February 2000, the General Assembly adopted resolution 54/134, officially designating November 25 as the International day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and in doing so, inviting governments, international organisations as well as NGOs to join together and organise activities designed to raise public awareness of the issue every year on that date.
The theme for International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women 2025 is 'UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls'.

Lachit Divas

Lachit Divas, observed annually on November 24, commemorates the unmatched bravery and leadership of Lachit Borphukan, the legendary commander of the Ahom Kingdom who thwarted Mughal expansion into Assam in the Battle of Saraighat (1671). In 2025, this day continues to be celebrated with great pride in Assam and across India, marking not only a military victory but also symbolising the spirit of resistance, patriotism, and regional identity. Lachit Borphukan stands tall in Indian history as a symbol of courage and strategic brilliance.

Africa Industrialisation Day

Africa Industrialisation Day is celebrated on November 20 each year. It is a time when governments and other organisations in many African countries examine ways to stimulate Africa's industrialisation process. It is also an occasion to draw worldwide media attention to the problems and challenges of industrialisation in Africa.
Its origins trace back to the July 1989 meeting of the Organisation of African Unity, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where African leaders first proposed the initiative. Later that year, in December, the United Nations General Assembly officially declared November 20 as African Industrialisation Day.

World Children's Day

World Children's Day is a global event celebrated each year on November 20 to promote and protect the rights, well-being, and voices of children around the world. Observed by countries from every continent, it is a day to recognise the importance of empowering young people, advocating for equal opportunities, and building a brighter future for the next generation.
World Children's Day was established in 1954 as Universal Children's Day.
The 2025 theme for World Children's Day is 'my day, my rights'.

National Philosophy Day

Every year, the third Thursday of November is celebrated as National Philosophy Day, also recognised globally as World Philosophy Day. In 2025, it was celebrated on November 20. This observance is a tribute to the timeless pursuit of wisdom, reflection, and dialogue. It aims to foster critical thinking and open-minded discussion to address today's pressing social and global challenges. National Philosophy Day reminds us of philosophy's crucial role in promoting tolerance, intellectual curiosity, and respect for diverse viewpoints, all essential qualities in today's increasingly interconnected world.
The celebration of World Philosophy Day began in 2002, initiated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). By 2005, it was officially recognized by the UNESCO General Conference, which dedicated the third Thursday of November as a day to highlight philosophy's contributions to society.

International Men's Day

Every year on November 19, International Men's Day is celebrated to recognise and honour the significant contributions of men to society, families, and communities.
This day focuses on bringing attention to the health, well-being, and positive role models among men while promoting conversations around gender equality and men's issues.
The idea for International Men's Day was first proposed in 1992, but it was not widely recognised until Dr Jerome Teelucksingh revived the initiative in 1999.

International Students' Day

International Students' Day 2025 is celebrated annually on November, 17. The day is commemorated in memory of the bravery of thousands of student activists in Prague, during the Nazi attack, who fought for the right to higher education. The Nazi forces occupied the Czech Republic on November 17, 1939 and executed nine protesters without trial.
The theme for International Students' Day 2025 is 'Empowering Students as Agents of Innovation and Change'.
