International Day of Democracy 2025: Theme, History & Significance

The International Day of Democracy observed on September 15 every year to reinforce the importance of democratic values, human rights, and citizen participation in governance.
Established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2007, this global observance underscores the ongoing need to protect democratic institutions and ensure that the voices of all individuals—especially women, youth, and marginalised communities—are heard.
In 2025, the theme highlighted a powerful call to action: "Achieving Gender Equality, Action by Action", focusing on equal representation, inclusive institutions, and the elimination of gender-based discrimination in political life.

Engineers Day 2025: Celebrating Innovation & Sir M. Visvesvaraya

Engineers Day is observed across India on September 15 every year, paying tribute to the unparalleled contributions of Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, one of the nation's most respected engineers.
The date marks the birth anniversary of Sir M. Visvesvaraya, born in Muddenahalli, Karnataka, on 15 September 1861. India first observed Engineers Day in 1967, and it has since become a day to recognize engineering innovation and inspire future generations.
The 2025 celebrations anchored in the theme "Deep Tech & Engineering Excellence: Driving India's Techade," reflecting the country's ambition to lead the next decade of global tech innovation.

World First Aid Day

World First Aid Day is a global initiative celebrated annually on the second Saturday of September.
It aimed to raise awareness about the importance of first aid training and how it could save lives in emergencies.
The day promoted first aid knowledge and skills among the public, encouraging people to be prepared to assist in any situation.
It also reminds us that first aid is a vital humanitarian act that can prevent injuries and save lives.
In 2025, it falls on September 13th, with the theme "First Aid and Climate Change."

National Forest Martyrs Day 2025: Honoring the Unsung Heroes of India's Forests

The Palamu Tiger Reserve hosted National Forest Martyrs' Day on September 11, 2025 at Betla National Park for the first time to commemorate forest personnel and officers who died in line of duty.
"All forest personnel and officials of the three districts of this region: Garhwa, Latehar, and Palamu converged to pay tributes to those who died in line of duty.
They are unsung heroes who gave a supreme sacrifice to save forest and wildlife. The Forest Martyrs' Day dates back to 1730 when 363 members of the Bishnoi community were massacred at Khejarli protecting the forest and animals.
The ministry of forest, environment, and climate change launched this day in 2013.

World Suicide Prevention Day

Each year, on 10 September, World Suicide Prevention Day is observed since 2003 by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP), with the World Health Organization (WHO) as co-sponsor. The day mobilises governments, organisations and the public around one message: Suicide is preventable.
The triennial theme for World Suicide Prevention Day (2024–2026) is "Changing the Narrative on Suicide". This theme calls on us all to challenge harmful myths, reduce stigma, and foster open, compassionate conversations around suicide.
