Aditi Anand's 'Marigolds' Wins Prestigious UK Award, On Display at V&A

  • Aditi Anand, a graduate from Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), was named the winner of the prestigious Emerging Illustrator category at the V&A Illustration Awards. Her artwork, Marigolds, is set in India and highlights the theme of child labour and lost childhoods. The V&A Illustration Awards, which are held biennially and Aditi's success further solidifies ARU's strong reputation in the field of illustration.
  • Aditi's victory comes with a £3,000 prize, and her work will be on display at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London until September 2025.
  • The V&A Illustration Awards is a free, biennial competition celebrating excellence in illustration and contemporary practice, and judged by a panel of prominent illustrators and industry experts.
  • First established in 1972, the V&A's competition is defined by a focus on the British illustration industry, celebrating artwork made for the UK market by artists from across the globe as well as artwork made by illustrators living in the UK.
  • The Awards are generously supported by The Linder Foundation and the Moira Gemmill Memorial fund.

Chiratae Ventures Honors Narayana Murthy with Patrick J. McGovern Awards

  • Chiratae Ventures, a prominent Indian venture capital fund, recognised three influential leaders with the 2024 Patrick J. McGovern Awards. Narayana Murthy, the founder of Infosys, received the India Lifetime Achievement Award for his groundbreaking contributions to the tech industry.
  • Shantanu Narayen, Chair and CEO of Adobe, was awarded the Global Lifetime Achievement Award, while Abhinav Asthana, CEO and founder of Postman, received the Exceptional Entrepreneurial Achievement Award. The awards honour the legacy of Patrick J. McGovern, a pioneer in technology media and an early supporter of Indian entrepreneurship.
  • The Patrick J. McGovern Awards were established in 2016.

The 5th National Water Awards 2023 Announced

  • The Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation (DoWR, RD & GR), under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, announced the winners of the 5th National Water Awards (NWA), 2023. These prestigious awards recognise the efforts of individuals, organisations, and institutions across India in water conservation and management. With 38 winners across 9 categories, the awards aim to raise awareness and encourage best practices in water usage and sustainability.
  • In the Best State category, Odisha claimed the top prize for its exceptional work in water resource management and sustainability. Uttar Pradesh secured second place, while Gujarat and Puducherry were honoured as joint third-place winners. Each winning state has demonstrated significant efforts in the sustainable use of water resources, ensuring water security for their populations.
  • The award distribution ceremony for the 5th National Water Awards, 2023 is scheduled to be held on October 22, 2024 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, with President of India, Droupadi Murmu, as the Chief Guest.

ISRO Chairman S. Somanath Receives Prestigious IAF World Space Award for Chandrayaan-3

  • S. Somanath, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), was honoured with the prestigious International Astronautical Federation (IAF) World Space Award. This accolade was awarded in recognition of the remarkable success of Chandrayaan-3, India's lunar mission that made history with its soft landing on the Moon's South Pole. The award ceremony took place in Milan, Italy, and marked a significant milestone in India's growing prominence in space exploration.
  • The IAF World Space Award is one of the most prestigious honours in the field of space science and exploration. Nihon Hidankyo Organisation Honoured with the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize

  • The Norwegian Nobel Committee award the Nobel Peace Prize for 2024 to the Japanese organisation Nihon Hidankyo. This grassroots movement of atomic bomb survivors from Hiroshima and Nagasaki, also known as Hibakusha, received the Peace Prize for its efforts to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons and for demonstrating through witness testimony that nuclear weapons must never be used again.
  • Nihon Hidankyo was founded in August 10, 1956.
  • Nihon Hidankyo is the only nation-wide organisation of A-bomb survivors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (Hibakusha).
  • It has member organisations in all 47 Japanese prefectures, thus representing almost all organized Hibakusha.
