Masaki Kashiwara Wins the 2025 Abel Prize for Mathematics

Japanese mathematician Masaki Kashiwara has been awarded the 2025 Abel Prize for his exceptional contributions to algebraic analysis and representation theory. The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters honoured the 78-year-old mathematician for his pioneering work in developing D-modules and discovering crystal bases, which have had a significant impact on modern mathematics. The Abel Prize remains one of the most prestigious awards in mathematics, often considered equivalent to the Nobel Prize in this field.
The Abel Prize is an international award given annually for outstanding achievements in mathematics. Named after the Norwegian mathematician Niels Henrik Abel, it was established in 2002 by the Norwegian Parliament. The primary objective of this award is to honour exceptional mathematicians whose work has significantly contributed to the advancement of the field.

Critics Choice Awards 2025

The Film Critics Guild announced the winners of the Critics' Choice Awards 2025. A newly introduced category this year, Best Documentary, honoured exceptional feature-length documentary films, with Nocturnes taking home the award for its powerful storytelling.
In the Feature Films segment, 'All We Imagine As Light' won Best Feature Film, recognised for its compelling narrative and artistic excellence. Diljit Dosanjh earned Best Actor for his remarkable performance in Amar Singh Chamkila.

Violinist R. K. Shriramkumar Selected for Sangita Kalanidhi Award 2025

Violinist R. K. Shriramkumar was selected for the prestigious Sangita Kalanidhi award for 2025, presented by the Music Academy. The award will be conferred during the Academy's 99th annual conference and concerts, scheduled from December 15, 2025, to January 1, 2026. This recognition comes in the 250th anniversary year of the legendary composer Muthuswami Dikshitar.
The Sangita Kalanidhi award is among the most esteemed recognitions in Carnatic music. Established by the Music Academy, Chennai, it is awarded annually to a musician who has made significant contributions to the field.

Amruta Fadnavis Honours Trailblazing Women at Mid-Day Power Woman Awards 2025

The Mid-Day Power Woman Awards 2025 in Mumbai was dedicated to celebrating extraordinary women who have made an indelible mark in cinema, music, literature, business, and social impact. The event saw Amruta Fadnavis honouring the remarkable achievers.
The prestigious awardees included Bhagyashree, Lalita Goenka, Eram Faridi, Divya Dutta, Krishna Shroff, Chhaya Kadam, Shweta Tripathi, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi & Kaveri Kapur, Dr. Anusha Srinivasan Iyer, Sadia Khatib, Yamini Malhotra, Sara Afreen Khan, and Veena Girish Wankhede, each recognized for their pioneering contributions to their respective fields.
Among the honorees, Eram Faridi was bestowed with the Powerful Women Iconic Producer-Filmmaker Award for her compelling films Meet Chang, Fedora's Wrinkles, and Naina, while Lalita Goenka was celebrated as the Most Powerful Women Iconic Lyricist for her soul-stirring album Hairat.

Vinod Kumar Shukla Selected for 59th Jnanpith Award

Eminent Hindi writer Vinod Kumar Shukla was named the recipient of the 59th Jnanpith Award, India's highest literary honour. At 88 years old, he was recognised for his outstanding contribution to Hindi literature, with a unique writing style that blends linguistic creativity and emotional depth. Notably, he is the first author from Chhattisgarh to receive this prestigious award and the 12th Hindi writer to be honoured with it.
The decision was taken by the Jnanpith Selection Committee, chaired by Pratibha Ray, along with members like Madhav Kaushik, Damodar Mauzo, Prabha Varma, Anamika, A Krishna Rao, Prafful Shiledar, Janki Prasad Sharma, and Madhusudan Anand.
The award includes a cash prize of Rs. 11 lakh, a bronze Saraswati statue, and a citation.
Established in 1961, the Jnanpith Award was first given in 1965 to Malayalam poet G. Sankara Kurup for his work "Odakkuzhal".
