Ex-Nepalese Soldier with Artificial Legs Scales Everest, Creates History

  • Hari Budha Magar, a double amputee ex-British Gurkha soldier scaled Mt. Everest, scripting history by becoming the first in the category to scale the world's highest peak with artificial legs.
  • He had postponed his plans to climb Mount Everest in 2018 when the government implemented a mountaineering regulation 2017 that prohibited blind, double-amputee, and solo climbers from climbing mountains, including Everest.
  • Budhamagar, lost both his legs in the war in Afghanistan while fighting as a soldier of British Gorkha for the UK government in 2010.

Industrialist Karumuttu T. Kannan Passes Away

  • Veteran industrialist Karumuttu T. Kannan passed away at the age of 70. Kannan was the chairman of Tamil Nadu-based Thiagarajar Mills and a board member of TVS Motor.
  • Kannan was also a leading educationalist and the president of Thiagarajar College, Madurai, and chairman and correspondent of Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai.
  • Kannan was a graduate in business administration from Madurai University and had a wide range of experience in the textile industry. He held the position of chairman of the Textiles Committee, Mumbai, the Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council, Mumbai, and Chairman of the South India Mills' Association during 1990-92. He was also the chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry, Southern Region, Chennai, and a member of the Southern regional board of the Industrial Development Bank of India.
  • He was the recipient of the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar award which was presented by the Tamil Nadu government for promoting education and social service.

Actor Sarath Babu Passes Away

  • Sarath Babu worked predominantly in the Tamil and Telugu cinema. He appeared in more than 200 films, including Hindi films too. He made his debut in 1973 but gained fame in 1978 through the Tamil film Nizhal Nijamagiradhu, directed by K. Balachander. He received eight state Nandi Awards. Sarath was last seen in Malli Pelli as Peddayana this year (2023). He also appeared in Vasantha Mullai. Sarath Babu has also worked extensively in the television industry.

Former Gujarat Minister Dies in Road Accident

  • Former Gujarat Agriculture Minister Vallabhbhai Vaghasiya died as the car he was driving crashed into a bulldozer near Savarkundla town in Amreli district of the state.
  • Vaghasiya a former BJP legislator from Savarkundla assembly seat had served as the Agriculture and Urban Housing Minister in the first term of the Vijay Rupani government.
  • Vaghasiya had won the 2012 Assembly election as a BJP MLA from the Savarkundla seat, and was sworn in as a minister in the Vijay Rupani government in 2016.

Rattan Lal Kataria, BJP Leader, Passes Away

  • BJP leader and a three-time Member of Parliament from Ambala, Rattan Lal Kataria passed away. He was 71.
  • He was born to Jyoti Ram and Perwari Devi in the Sandhali village of Yamunanagar district of Haryana on December 19, 1951. Associated with the RSS for over five decades, Kataria had served as the minister of state in the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti and Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment till July 7, 2021.
  • In 1999, Kataria was elected as the Member of Parliament from the Ambala parliamentary constituency for the first time. He lost in Ambala to Congress stalwart Kumari Selja in the 2004 and 2009 Lok Sabha elections. However, in 2014, he defeated Congress's Ramkumar Valmiki and then Selja in 2019.
  • In 1980, he became the vice president of the BJP's Yuva Morcha and also headed the party's state unit in Haryana from June 2001 to September 2003. During this time, he had also launched a magazine Bhajpa ki Baat.

Hinduja Group Patriarch Srichand P. Hinduja Passes Away

  • Hinduja family patriarch Srichand P. Hinduja passed away at the age of 87. S. P., as he was popularly known, was the eldest of four brothers who set up a global, diversified conglomerate with interests in banking, automobiles, and chemicals.
  • S.P. joined his family business after completing his education in early 50s.
  • Led by his vision and leadership, S. P. along with his brothers, Gopichand, Prakash and Ashok Hinduja, conceived and strategized the diversification and expansion of Hinduja Group.
  • S. P., a leading Non-Resident Indian (NRI) businessman and head of Hinduja Group, conceived the vision of IndusInd Bank - the first of the new-generation private banks in India - and through collective contributions from the NRI community towards India's economic and social development, brought the Bank into being.
