Indian American Newspaper 'India Abroad' Ends Print Edition after 50 Years

  •  The New York City-based India Abroad, the iconic ethnic Indian American weekly newspaper with a 50-year-long legacy, has announced the shut-down of its print edition.
  • Founded by publisher Gopal Raju in 1970, the oldest Indian newspaper in North America was the first publication to fill the gap of a publication catering to the Indian American community in the U.S., a message from the current publisher, Suresh Venkatachari, said in a publisher's message March 27.
  • In 2001, Raju sold the publication to; in late 2016, sold its venture to 8kMiles Media Inc., whose chairman Venkatachari announced the decision to cease the print edition. "The last issue will be dated March 30," he stated.

National Book Trust Offers Over 100 E-Books In Multiple Languages

  • The Ministry of Human Resource Development's National Trust (NBT) announced that it will be making over 100 e-books available in multiple languages as part of its '#StayHomeIndiaWithBooks' initiative to encourage reading during the 21-day lockdown.
  • The e-books are available on NBT's website in a PDF format in multiple languages including Hindi, English, Asamiya, Bangla, Gujarati, Malayalam, Odia, Marathi, Kokborok, Mizo, Bodo, Nepali, Tamil, Punjabi, Telugu, Kannada, Urdu and Sanskrit. "The books cover all genres of fiction, biography, popular science, teacher's handbook, and majorly books for children and young adult," the Ministry said. The collection includes books by legendary Indian authors including Tagore and Premchand.

Book Titled "An Extraordinary Life: A biography of Manohar Parrikar" to be Released

  • A book titled "An Extraordinary Life: A biography of Manohar Parrikar" was written by senior journalists Sadguru Patil and Mayabhushan Nagvenkar. The book was published by Penguin Random House India and to be released in April 2020.
  • Late Manohar Gopalkrishna Prabhu Parrikar was the former Chief Minister (CM) of Goa and also served as the Defense Minister in the Modi Government from the year 2014 to 2017.
  • Sadguru Patil, is serving as bureau chief with the Goa edition of Lokmat and also worked as chief reporter with Dainik Gomantak. He has been working with various Marathi newspapers since 1955.
  • Mayabhushan Nagvenkar serves as the state correspondent for the Indo-Asian News Service based in Goa & has been a journalist for nearly 22 years in Delhi, Goa and Mumbai.

Odisha CM Releases Book on lLfe & Works of Biju Patnaik

  • Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik released a comic book on the life and works of legendary leader and his father Biju Patnaik.
  • The book, ''Adventures of a Daredevil Democrat'' published by the Kalinga Foundation Trust and the Creative Warehouse, is a first of its kind comic book on the life and works of Biju Patnaik.
  • "Biju Patnaik was a legend in his lifetime. In fact he was a man of a million legends. As we celebrate his 104th birth anniversary, people recall his memories with great respect, love and admiration.
  • He said the book ''Adventures of a Daredevil Democrat'' is one such endeavour to remember one of the most loved leaders of Odisha, Biju Patnaik.
