Vartika Shukla Conferred Business Leader of the Year Award

Vartika Shukla, C&MD, EIL was conferred with the Business Leader of the Year Award at the Downwards Downstream India Awards at the Global Refining and Petrochemicals Congress 2023 in New Delhi. This award is conferred in recognition of the C&MD's extensive contributions in the evolution and development of the hydrocarbons sector.
Shukla having started her career as a Management Trainee at EIL in1988 rose through the ranks to become C&MD in September 2021. During her illustrious career spanning over 3.5 decades, she has made immense contributions to the development of National Policies especially in the area of Auto Fuel vision & policy, National Bio Fuel Policy and future road map for the refining and petrochemical sector. Under her leadership, EIL has also advanced in the application of data driven analytical approach for improving the overall quality of the deliverables across the company.

Boxing champion Mary Kom named Global Indian Icon at U.K.-India Awards

Sporting legend and India's first-ever Olympic medallist in women's boxing, Mary Kom, was honoured with the Global Indian Icon of the Year award at the annual UK-India Awards in Windsor, south-eastern England. Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, directing Oscar-nominated 'Elizabeth: The Golden Age' received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the field of cinema across both nations at the awards, organised by India Global Forum (IGF) as part of UK-India Week. The Nehru Centre in London, the cultural wing of the Indian High Commission, won the UK-India Award for Significant Contribution to UK-India Relations.
The awards were selected from a shortlist by a jury of industry experts and marked the penultimate event of the six-day UK-India Week, which included a special reception hosted by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak at 10 Downing Street during which he committed to working towards a truly ambitious free trade agreement (FTA) with India.
The awards, now in their fifth year, recognise outstanding contributions of leaders in business, professional services, government, culture and social impact, highlighting their remarkable achievements in strengthening bilateral ties.

Rajindar Singh Dhatt Honoured with the Points of Light Award 2023

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak honoured Rajindar Singh Dhatt, one of the last surviving Sikh soldiers who fought in the Second World War with a Points of Light honour at a UK-India Week reception at 10 Downing Street.
Dhatt, 101, was recognised for his service and his work running the Undivided Indian Ex-Servicemen's Association to help bring together British Indian war veterans.
Dhatt, based in Hounslow in southwest London since 1963, was born in pre-partition India in 1921 and fought with the Allied forces during the British colonial period.

World Bank President Ajay Banga Named In 2023 List of Great Immigrants

Ajay Banga, the President of the World Bank, was named by a prestigious philanthropic organisation to its annual 'Great Immigrants' list of honourees who have enriched and strengthened America and its democracy through their contributions and actions.
Banga, who became World Bank chief in June 2023, is the first-ever Indian American to lead the institution. He is the only honouree from India in this year's (2023) list of 'Great Immigrants' by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
As per Dame Louise Richardson, president of Carnegie Corporation of New York, the 'Great Immigrants' initiative is a tribute to the legacy of Andrew Carnegie, a Scottish immigrant who, like these honourees, found success in America, contributed enormously to his adopted country, and inspired others to do the same.
Carnegie Corporation of New York is a leading philanthropic foundation established by Scottish immigrant Andrew Carnegie and is now led by Irish immigrant Dame Louise Richardson. It celebrates the crucial role of naturalised citizens in making America a land of opportunity for all.

Singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan Receives Honorary Doctorate in the UK

Renowned singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan was granted an honorary doctorate by Birmingham City University (BCU) in England. The prestigious recognition is a tribute to his significant contributions to the field of music and the arts. Shankar Mahadevan is a prominent member of the highly accomplished music composing trio known as Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. The honorary doctorate was presented to him by Professor Philip Plowden, the Vice-Chancellor of Birmingham City University, during a ceremony held in Birmingham.

Busta Rhymes Gets the BET Lifetime Achievement Award for 2023

Busta Rhymes was awarded the BET Lifetime Achievement Award for 2023.
Busta Rhymes born in May 1972, in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, New York, is an acclaimed American rapper, songwriter, record producer, and actor. Renowned for his intricate rhyming technique and rapid-fire delivery, Busta Rhymes has left an indelible mark on the world of hip hop.
Originally gaining prominence as a member of the hip hop group Leaders of the New School, Busta Rhymes showcased his talent on albums like "A Future Without a Past" (1991) and "T.I.M.E." (1993). Following the group's disbandment in 1994, he embarked on a successful solo career, releasing his debut album, "The Coming," in 1996. This album garnered critical acclaim and commercial success, reaching the top 10 on the Billboard 200 chart and achieving platinum certification from the RIAA.
The BET Awards is an annual awards ceremony that celebrates African Americans and other minorities in music, entertainment, and sports. It is presented by the Black Entertainment Television (BET) network and has been held since 2001. The awards show aims to recognise and honour the achievements of black artists and entertainers in various categories, including music, film, television, and sports.

Alappuzha Doctor K. Venugopal Selected for IMA Award

Dr. K. Venugopal, chief consultant in respiratory medicine at General Hospital, Alappuzha, was selected for an award instituted by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) to commemorate National Doctors' Day on July 1. Dr. Venugopal was selected under the category of community service. He will receive the award at a function to be held at IMA headquarters in New Delhi on July 1.
The Indian Medical Association was formed in 1928 and is headquartered in New Delhi.
