CNN-News18 Indian of the Year 2023 Awards

Bollywood's Badshaah, Shah Rukh Khan, won the CNN-News18 Indian of the Year Award. This marked Shah Rukh Khan's first-ever media appearance since 2019.
Mani Ratnam was honoured with the CNN News18 Indian of the Year 2023 in the field of Entertainment. The acclaimed filmmaker was presented the award by veteran screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar at the star-studded ceremony. Akhtar was part of the jury with former Solicitor General of India Harish Salve, retired Supreme Court judge, Justice Indu Malhotra, former Indian athlete and Vice-President of Athletics Federation of India Anju Bobby George, chairperson of R. P. Sanjiv Goenka Group Sanjiv Goenka, and environmental activist and lawyer Afroz Shah.
Other nominees for the 2023 award included actress Deepika Padukone, actor Manoj Bajpayee and actor Sunny Deol. Last year, the award was presented to Telugu actor Allu Arjun.
Currently in its 13th edition, CNN-News18 Indian of the Year is an initiative that recognises Indians who have made significant contributions to various fields and have had a profound impact on the nation. Since its inception in 2006, CNN-News18 Indian of the Year has firmly positioned itself as the biggest awards in the world of news television, celebrated for its unassailable credibility.

Indore, Surat are Cleanest Cities in India

Indore and Surat were declared joint cleanest cities in India as part of the Swachh Survekshan Awards-2023 presented by President Droupadi Murmu. Indore won the award for the seventh straight time. Navi Mumbai retained the third position.
Chandigarh won the SafaiMitra Suraksha award for city with best safety standards for sanitation workers.

Divyakriti Singh Becomes 1st Indian Woman Arjuna Awardee for Equestrian Sports

Divyakriti Singh etched her name in the annals of Indian sports history as the first woman from the country to be honoured with the prestigious Arjuna Award for equestrian sports.
President Droupadi Murmu presented the coveted award to her at a glittering ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan, marking a crowning glory for the Asian Games Gold medallist in equestrian sports - the only woman to achieve the honour.

BITS Pilani V. C. Ramgopal Rao Gets VLSI Lifetime Achievement Award 2024

Professor Ramgopal Rao, the Vice Chancellor of BITS Pilani, was awarded the VSI Lifetime Achievement Award 2024. The award was presented by the VLSI Society of India at the 37th International Conference on VLSI Design held in Kolkata, India.
The award recognised Prof Rao's contributions towards the development of the VLSI Design and Semiconductor ecosystem in India. His immense dedication to Semiconductors and VLSI Design Research and Education has laid a robust foundation, playing a pivotal role in positioning India as a formidable Semiconductor Nation.
The decision to confer the VSI Lifetime Achievement Award 2024 was made by a distinguished 9-member jury comprising leaders from the Global Semiconductor Industry and Academic organisations.

President Droupadi Murmu Confers 'Khel Ratna' and 'Arjuna' Award

India's best-performing athletes were conferred with the national sports awards by President Droupadi Murmu in a regal ceremony where cricketer Mohammed Shami and para archer Sheetal Devi walked in to a rapturous applause at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Shuttlers Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy were chosen for the coveted Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award for a breakout 2023, during which they won their maiden Asian Games gold, a first for India in badminton, while also clinching the Asian Championships title and the Indonesia Open Super 1000 title.
