Punjab Becomes First State to Introduce Entrepreneurship in Class 11
Punjab became the first state in India to embed entrepreneurship as a core subject in school education. The announcement was made by Punjab School Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, alongside Punjab AAP Incharge Manish Sisodia.
The new subject will be offered to Class 11 students from the 2025-26 academic year.
The initiative is aimed at fostering an entrepreneurial mindset, encouraging students to become job creators rather than job seekers. The minister said the course will empower young minds to emerge as innovators, problem-solvers and community leaders.
The curriculum has been designed to be experiential and project-based rather than exam-driven. Students will form teams, generate business ideas, develop prototypes, pitch for seed funding and even launch products or services.
With 18 periods annually, three dedicated to theory and fifteen to project work, the structure ensures engaging lessons without adding extra pressure.
